A wonderful evening celebrating the vibrancy of early summer and exploring what becomes visible when we slow down and pay closer attention. Thank you for improvisational electric base guitar music that so perfectly matched the vibe. The exhibit by is open through July 12!

We are pleased to announce our upcoming exhibit:

🎨 What Emerges by Isabella Revere 🎨

We met Isabella earlier this year at Bethanne’s art reception and knew she had to exhibit here too! Isabella is an emerging artist originally from Southampton, NY, who is currently based in
Morrisville. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Art from Pace University in New York City. Working in acrylic painting and colored pencil drawing, she creates vibrant, expressive works that explore the beauty of animals and the natural world.

What Emerges is a show about perception, change, and the quiet moments that often go unnoticed. Across the three series, Isabella’s work explores what becomes visible when we slow down and pay closer attention.

Opening Reception: Monday, June 1, 6-7pm, with live music by Samuel Guihan

June 1-July 12 Exhibit Hours:
Sundays 12-2pm, Tues/Thurs 10am-2pm, and by appointment.

This is the most sacred time of the Church Year. During this Holy Week, you and I are invited not just to remember the events of the last week of Jesus’ earthly ministry, but to enter into those events, to step into these stories. This year, we are invited to walk with Jesus from the celebration of Palm Sunday, to the farewell gathering of Maundy Thursday, to the suffering of Good Friday, to the stillness of Holy Saturday, to the Resurrection of Easter Sunday. You are cordially invited to move with followers of Jesus, from death into life. I hope that we will see many of you in the next three days.

Maundy Thursday worship will consist of a shared meal and holy conversation as part of our worship and celebration of Holy Communion. Afterward, we move upstairs to clear the worship space for Good Friday. The festivities begin at 5:00 pm.

Good Friday worship begins at noon, the historical the hour of Jesus’ crucifixion. Our spartan space leaves room for some of the most beautiful prayers in our prayerbook.

The Easter Vigil begins outdoors at 7:00pm on Saturday, with the kindling of the new fire. This worship is unlike anything else the Church does all year long. As a reminder, this year we are engaging in this worship with our friends in Christ from St. John the Baptist. A reception follows.

Easter Sunday morning worship is at the usual 10:00 time. The tomb will be empty. The Holy Spirit will show up, and it will be wonderful. A reception follows this worship too.

A message from Father Bob about Palm Sunday:

Holy Week might look a little different than it has in previous years. I will walk us through more in next week’s newsletter, but for now, I’d like to talk about Palm Sunday.

First, because of actions in the Middle East, it has been difficult to source palms for folks to wave at our worship on Sunday. As such, we are asking people to bring in greens or sticks from their homes to wave. The more I think about this, the more I like it as a practice, as it connects us not only with Jesus in First Century Palestine, but Christ present in our own area, in our own contexts.

Second, Palm Sunday will be Palm Sunday. By this I mean that we will not hear the Passion Narrative until Good Friday’s liturgy. The Liturgical Movement of the 1960s and 1970s gave us many great things, but one way I feel that movement under-estimated the people of God was moving the Passion to Palm Sunday. For centuries, Palm Sunday had stood on it own, but that liturgy was combined with the Passion in our Book of Common Prayer 1979, potentially because the framers of that book did not expect people to be in worship on Good Friday, or perhaps for Holy Week altogether. Well, I know that the faithful people of St. John’s in the Mountains can step into Holy Week to walk with Jesus through all of the stories of the season. It helps that all of our Holy Week worship services will be online. Thank you for coming into this season with an open mind and a willingness to be moved by what the Holy Spirit is doing in our midst now.

If you would like to be a part of the Good Friday Passion Narrative or serve at the Easter Vigil, or if you have any questions about the general shape of Holy Week, please call, text, or email me.

Yours in Christ, Bob+
