We support a number of local, national, and international outreach ministries such as Habitat for Humanity, the Walk for Hunger, and Church World Service. We also perform pastor

al outreach through our Prayer Shawl Ministry and Caring Committee. Fellowship activities include weekday suppers, our annual Holiday Fair, men’s and women’s groups, and of course, Coffee Fellowship after Sunday worship! Living in openness to the Voice of the Still Speaking God, and following the Greatest Commandment of Jesus Christ to love God and neighbor, we extend an extravagant welcome to all persons regardless of age, race, nationality, ethnicity, faith background, marital status, family structure, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, socio-economic status, physical or mental ability, or any other difference that might otherwise separate us from one another within the family of God. We invite all into the full life and ministry of our church, including worship, sacraments, rites, covenants, fellowship, leadership, employment, commitments, blessings, and joys. Whoever you are, or wherever you are on your faith journey, you are welcome here.

Closing Service - Sunday, April 16 at 3:00 PM

April 14, 2023

Dear Friends,

May the peace of the Risen Christ be with you all.

As you know, we will be gathering in Stoughton for the last time on Sunday at 3:00 pm to worship and share stories of the many ways our loving community of faith has impacted each of us. I am grateful that we can do this in a place where all our emotions will be welcomed and honored. Our Area Conference Minister, Rev. Patty Kogut, will be joining us along with Reverends Adam Isbitsky and Jeff Kardisco. We will also be blessed by the presence of our former music directors Christopher Nickelson-Mann and Elizabeth Silvia.

If you are unable to be with us in person, here is the Zoom link for the service:

It won’t be easy to say goodbye to the building that has meant so much to us, but I’m grateful that we can do it together during Eastertide, the season of hope and new life.

With much love,

Mary

A Farewell Greeting From Pastor Mary

March 3, 2023

Dear Church Family,

I have always valued the insights of Catholic priest and spiritual writer Henri Nouwen. His thoughts on what he calls a “ministry of absence” seem particularly appropriate for me to share with you now as I begin my retirement.

Nouwen points out that people generally put a lot of emphasis on being together, whether at home, work, or worship, and certainly, this kind of connection is meaningful and important. But he also believes that togetherness must be balanced by what he thinks of as a holy absence, which creates space for God’s Spirit to become present in new ways.

Nouwen reminds us that Jesus himself said, “It is for your good that I leave.” I have found comfort in these words as I prepare to leave the beautiful community of faith that has been such an important part of my life these past ten years. I am convinced that as you, the members and friends of the First Congregational Church of Stoughton, continue to weave your faith lives with those of the good people of Christ Congregational Church under the gifted leadership of Rev. Jeff Kardisco, the Holy Spirit will indeed become present to you in new and life-giving ways and will continue to bless, guide, and sustain you.

A ministry of absence needs to begin well, however. We are hoping to do just that at the Service of Celebration and Release (and the time of fellowship to follow!) that will take place in our church sanctuary in Stoughton this Sunday, March 5, at 3:00 PM. Your presence will mean a lot to me, but if you are unable to attend in person, here is the Zoom link:

As I leave, I pray for God’s richest blessings to be upon each of you and I will always be grateful for the love you have shown me in our time together.

With love and gratitude,

Pastor Mary
