Reed Cemetery Rules and Regulations
The purpose of these Rules and Regulations are to establish and maintain a standard for all the families whose loved ones are buried within these grounds. They will also serve as a guideline to ensure the continued beauty, peacefulness, and solemnness to the area that serves as a tribute for loved ones laid here to rest.
Graves:
No graves are to be dug without prior permission of the Cemetery Board. All sites now allocated to families should be confirmed with:
Johnny Smith 870‐867‐3448 (H) 870‐867‐7254 (C)
Mervin Lambert 870‐867‐2387 (H) 870‐867‐7181 (C)
Roger Smith 870‐867‐3991 (H) 870‐867‐7044 (C)
Do not assume, check and verify that your plot has been recorded. No sites shall be claimed without the Board’s approval.
All graves within the new expanded area will cost $500.00 each.
Cleaning of grave sites:
In order to provide a clean and a more easily maintained facility for Decoration Day, 3rd Sunday in May, all graves shall be cleared of any and all ornamentation by families before May 1st. Any decoration you wish to retain must be picked up before mowing season begins.
Debris and other discarded materials shall be placed in the appropriate trash site provided. Discard trash only in the trash site provided, not over the nearest fence.
No new permanent ornamentation shall be placed without permission. Benches placed before May 1, 2019 shall remain until they become unsightly. Benches shall be placed within the grave plots, not in the lanes. Effective April 26th, 2020, addendum to rules and regulations regarding benches. Individuals must obtain permission from the Cemetery Board prior to placing a bench in the cemetery and any new benches shall be placed in the designated area inside the cemetery fence close too or near the large tree or 2 smaller trees that are located in Section E of the cemetery.
Consideration should be given to the mowing crew when placing flowers and decorations up and down graves. During the mowing season the crew needs access to the areas. The cemetery maintenance crew can at any time clear off grass, weeds, wilted, faded flowers and debris. The cemetery reserves the right to remove artifacts from the graves, i.e. artificial flowers, stuffed animals bows, plantings, etc., which are determined to be unsightly, or faded and present a detriment to the natural beauty of the cemetery. The Cemetery Board reserves the right to use their discretion to make this determination.
Every effort will be made to notify families when their family plots are adversely affected.
Every effort will be made to return flowers and ornamentation to the correct graves when winds and strong weather disturb the cemetery.
Families with ornamentation, i.e. fencing, flag poles, gravel, stone borders, mounded graves etc. shall be responsible for their maintenance. The grounds crews will mow within one foot of these obstacles.
Rocks and stones are detrimental to the monuments and mowing crew. This relates to a safety issue. After two years of neglect the Board has the authority to flatten the grave for easy maintenance.
Families shall not plant trees or shrubs without permission. Plantings now established, whose roots, branches or otherwise, which becomes detrimental or unsightly to the adjacent graves or avenues shall be removed.
Monument and Marker Standards:
Standard markers are to be placed within the cemetery and shall not exceed 42” in height. Single grave markers cannot exceed 32” in length. Double markers cannot exceed 72” in length. All monuments and grave markers shall be placed on a foundation adequate to prevent future settlement, tilting or cracking. All foundations shall be of cement or granite.
Foot markers shall be ground level.
All monuments shall be set in line with cemetery plat.
Repairs:
Graves and Marker repairs are the responsibility of the individual families.
Scattering:
All cremated remains will be interred in retrievable containers with complete cemetery records afforded for each internment. No remains shall be scattered on the grounds.
General:
Please be considerate and close cemetery gate when leaving. This will deter animals from entering the cemetery to damage, destroy or desecrate the grounds.
