Re: Chanukah shooting: My thoughts, Rabbi Adam:

I woke up just as shocked as anybody.

So hard to believe.

Tears come to my eyes.

A fellow Chabad Rabbi.

Fathers. Mothers. Children. Jews.

I say something to myself through clenched teeth.

Gotta get a hold of myself.

Gotta gather my wits.

Gotta make a situational assessment.

This is not a fluke or some out-of-the-box incident.

Mass shootings are happening everywhere.

In schools. At political events.

Anti-Semitic rhetoric is at a peak.

And some people out there think that we are the enemy.

Okay, I get that.

It's a powder keg waiting to blow. I get that.

Gotta up our security game, for sure.

We just installed cameras and outdoor lighting systems, thanks to a generous donor.

But still, nothing in life is full-proof.

It happened on the first night of Chanukah

(Australia is 16 hours ahead of us).

The night the Greeks wanted to stop us.

And now, we have a new kind of "Greeks".

They want to stop us.

The way a Jew fights back, is by being more Jewish.

By being more proud.

Our answer to an increase in darkness, is to increase in light.

Otherwise how are you going to see?

Running and cowering is not an option.

This Chanukah, light that Menorah. Light it proud.

Go to a public Chanukah event.

Just google "chanukah near me" and go.

May G-d comfort all the mourners...
