MAY 28 + Today is the Feast Day of Spiritual Warrior Saint Bernard of Montjoux + Pray for us

Bernard was a priest in the Northern Italian region of Aosta. This is a mountainous area where the Alps cross Italy, France, and Switzerland.

For more than 40 years, Bernard traveled throughout his diocese, visiting every mountainside village and valley. He celebrated the Eucharist and Reconciliation with the people, gave instructions in the faith, built churches, and started schools. Everywhere he went he heard stories of travelers who had been lost in the mountains and froze to death or had been ambushed by robbers.

Today you can fly over the Alps or travel smoothly by rail or car. But back in the 11th century, people traveled on foot, on horseback, or in carts. Bernard saw a need, and he decided to do something about it. Bernard built two hospices for travelers where they could not find only shelter from the weather and safety from robbers, but a place to rest and eat. These hospices were located along two of the most frequently used routes, which were eventually named for Bernard — the Great St. Bernard Pass and the Little St. Bernard Pass. He brought Augustinian monks to run the hospices, and they built a monastery in the mountains.

Every morning a patrol went out to look for travelers who were lost or injured and brought them back to the hospital. It was the monks who eventually bred the large, fury dogs — now called Saint Bernards — to help them find and rescue lost travelers.

In 1923 Pope Pius XI named Saint Bernard the Patron Saint of Alpinists, mountain climbers and skiers.

This Memorial Day, we remember the brave souls who died to defend American liberty, and especially to those Catholics who held onto their faith until the very end.

One of these is, Father Verbis Lafleur, a Japanese POW and Heroic World War II Chaplain.

Our parish was blessed with another beautiful baptism yesterday, Sunday, May 17!

Maggie May, daughter of Tucker and Tomi May, became a daughter of Christ and was baptized in the name of the father, son and Holy Spirit by Father Burnette during Mass.

We welcome this precious child to the faith and pray for her life to be full of blessings and God’s unfathomable love ❤️

We’ve all seen the movie. Here’s the real story, better than Hollywood’s version, stating the one and only St Michael ⚔️

This is the full story: Many think The Exorcist is just Hollywood horror.
But it happened in 1949, in America.

A 14-year-old boy was possessed so violently that Protestant pastors gave up. Catholic priests were called.

St. Michael appeared and cast out Satan himself.

Here' is exactly what happened.

In 1949, a 14-year-old boy in Maryland, later given the pseudonym “Roland Doe”, began experiencing violent supernatural attacks.

Furniture moved on its own.
Words appeared scratched into his skin.
His voice changed into something inhuman.

Protestant pastors tried to intervene, but soon admitted they could not help.

Desperate, the family turned to the Catholic Church.

Jesuit priests were called.

The Archdiocese of St. Louis authorized a full Catholic exorcism under Fr. William Bowdern, S.J.

Over 30 witnesses, priests, nurses, family members, later testified that they saw things beyond human explanation.

During the rituals, Roland convulsed violently.

He cursed in unknown languages.
He mocked the priests.

Crosses and sacred objects were hurled across the room. Mysterious marks appeared on his body.

The exorcism dragged on for weeks.

The priests prayed the Roman Rite of Exorcism daily, often until total exhaustion.

At times, Roland’s voice shifted into something terrifying: claiming to be Satan himself.

Then the unexpected.
April 18, 1949. The eve of Easter Monday.
Roland screamed in torment as the demon raged inside him.

Suddenly, he cried out in a new voice: “Satan! Satan! I am St. Michael… and I command you, Satan and the other evil spirits, to leave this body in the Name of Dominus — IMMEDIATELY! NOW! NOW! NOW!”

At once, Roland reported a vision:

He saw St. Michael the Archangel holding a flaming sword, striking down Satan and his demons.

Then he fell still.
A great peace filled the room.

“The demon is gone,” he whispered.

The possession had ended.
The boy was freed, the priests were exhausted but overjoyed. They recorded everything.

They knew the victory was not their own, but Christ working through St. Michael.

Decades later, their notes inspired the novel & film The Exorcist.

Hollywood twisted it into horror.

But the Church remembers it differently:
As a testimony that demons tremble before Christ, and victory belongs to God.

“St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.”

Wow- what courage and bravery 🏄

Fr. Liam Ryan, an Irish – Australian Catholic priest affectionately known as the “surfing priest,” is once again being celebrated online after stories of his repeated ocean rescues resurfaced across social media, drawing widespread admiration for his courage and compassion. Fr. Ryan, who leads Our Lady Queen of Peace Cathedral Parish, recently rescued a father and son who were being pulled toward a dangerous rip current off the Western Australian coast. Spotting the pair struggling in the surf, the priest paddled toward them, brought them onto his board, and guided them safely back to shore. The dramatic rescue has renewed public attention on another heroic act by the priest in 2021, when he helped save a surfer mauled by a great white shark. Fr. Ryan recalled seeing the man stranded in the water beside a broken surfboard before noticing the massive shark attacking his leg. Together with another surfer, he managed to bring the severely injured man back to shore as he bled heavily from his wounds. Following the rescue, the priest later said he retreated alone to nearby sand dunes to pray after the victim had been airlifted to the hospital. Awarded an Australian Bravery Award in 2022, Fr. Ryan is now being widely praised on social media not only for his fearless rescues but for embodying a quiet, selfless faith lived out in moments of extraordinary danger.
