Enchanting,” “Irresistible,” and “Charming,” are but three words out of many that describe one of Ireland’s most acclaimed performers. A rare combination of storyteller, author, singer, songwriter and social activist, Sands’ reviews come from politicians and major authors as well as fellow musicians and music reviewers. Sands has become an integral part of the Irish folk music revival and a one-of a kind North Ireland native, whose music is often found to speak louder than violence. From the pioneering days with the highly influential Sands Family, bringing Irish Music from New York’s Carnegie Hall to Moscow’s Olympic Stadium, he has developed into one of the most powerful songwriters and revered solo performers in Ireland.
The first half of the concert will be a conversation with Stephen Bauman, whose podcast ‘Living in the Meantime…’ is a weekly discussion about making meaning in life’s in-between seasons—when the future feels uncertain and the old ways no longer fit. Tommy’s whole life has been about bringing meaning to a world that rarely makes sense.
