"Signos Eficaces del Obrar de Padre"
Fr. Juan Carlos Aguirre-Borchardt

"The Community of Faith in Service of God’s Mercy"
Fr. Richard Vega
Pope Francis, in the Papal Bull The Face of Mercy, reminds us that God sent his Son into the world, to reveal his love to the world so that whoever sees Jesus sees the Father. (cf. John 14:9) Jesus, by his words and actions, by his entire person, reveals the mercy of God. The Christian community is the manifestation of God’s presence in the world. Pope Francis has challenged us to make tangible that love and mercy. How are we as a community embodying that mercy outside the church building? Are we empowering the members of the Body of Christ to engage “the world” to manifest the joy and mercy of the
Gospel? This workshop will offer some ideas on how the faith community can reveal the face of mercy to those who seek his presence within and outside the faith community.

Fr. Richard Vega, a priest of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, is currently serving as Pastor of St. Frances of Rome Parish in Azusa, CA. From 2006-2012, he served as President of the National Federation of Priests Councils (NFPC) whose headquarters are in Chicago. He is a member of SOMELIT
(The Society of Mexican Liturgists), served on the FORUM Board of Directors, and is a contributor to LTP and to the Catechumenate. He has been a presenter for the Offices of Divine Worship, Religious Education, and Youth in Los Angeles and Chicago. We are glad to welcome him back to Ministry Day!

"Human Dignity in Laudato Si and the Role of the Laity"
Katelyn Roedner Sutter and Edgar Garibay

The afternoon Keynote will address Pope Francis' encyclical, Laudato Si': On Care for our Common Home. The media and environmental community often incorrectly refer to this as an encyclical on climate change. This conversation will explore the human dimension and what it means to take merciful action in our common home. We will consider ideas including human ecology, human dignity and caring for creation, and the connection between the poor and the environment."

Katelyn Roedner Sutter is a Maine native and a lifelong member of the United Church of Christ. She graduated from George Washington University in Washington, DC with a BA in international affairs with an economic focus, and a minor in religion. Katelyn taught high school in New Orleans with Teach for America before moving to California. She received her MA in ethics from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley where she wrote about human flourishing and sustainable international development. Katelyn believes that all these aspects of social justice – economy, education, environment, and more –
are inherently linked, and one cannot do justice without considering each of them. Katelyn now lives in Ripon with her husband and two greyhounds. She enjoys cooking, gardening, traveling, and volunteering with elders living with dementia. Katelyn serves on the Board of Global Ministries of the United
Church of Christ and Disciples of Christ, as well as the Board of the Save Downtown Stockton Foundation.

“La Familia como Escuela de Misericordia”
Padre Ramon Bejarano

Jubilee Year of Mercy - "Transforming Parish and Ministries into Oases of Mercy and Ourselves into Missionaries of Mercy"

Kevin Staszkow

A workshop for Parish and Diocesan Ministry Leaders
When Pope Francis announced the Year of Mercy, most of us jumped immediately into
planning mode. Our To Do Lists and our calendars became even more overwhelming. Pope Francis' challenge in this Jubilee Year of Mercy is not about doing more; rather it's an opportunity to look closely at how we do things as ministers, as parishes, as diocesan offices. How can we become oases of Mercy, primarily one that requires us to look carefully how we do things not to add a bunch of activities to the Diocesan and/or parish calendar.

Kevin Staszkow has served as a parish Youth Minister, Young Adult Minister, Director of Religious Education, RCIA Director, and Director of Adult Faith Formation for the past seven year. Kevin has served the Diocese of Sacramento as the Director of Evangelization and Catechesis.

Join Bishop Stephen E. Blaire and Kathy Hendricks as they present one of the four KEYNOTE topics scheduled in this years Ministry Day conference.

"Opening the Door of Mercy"

The Jubilee Year of Mercy began in symbolic fashion when the doors of basilicas and cathedrals around the world were opened. What a beautiful invitation to unseal our own hearts in order to embrace the mercy of God. In doing so, we are also encouraged to make mercy a hallmark of our ministry, extending it in such a way as to make its practice and reception in our lives, in our places of work and in our places of worship a concrete reality.
