Community Christian Church

Community Christian Church We exist to give glory to God by what we believe, by what we do, and by who we are. We are not interested in “brand name” Christianity.

The Community Christian Church is an independent, non-denominational Christian Church with no state or national authority, district supervisor, or denomination telling us what to do or believe. We worship and conduct our ministry based upon what the Bible says rather than man-made laws, ideas, and traditions. We are not Baptists, Catholics, Lutherans, Methodists, or Presbyterians, but simply Chris

tians, doing our best to live according to the principles found in the Bible. Our theology is conservative and practical. We believe that the Bible is God’s written Word and accept it, alone, as our final authority for what we believe and do. We emphasize both public and private worship, sincere faith, a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and personal attitudes, actions, and lifestyle that honor God in every way. Our vision is to build a safe place where individuals and families can come to discover a God who loves and cares about them, learn the meaning and personal application of the Bible, develop friendships and connections with others, and find a variety of opportunities to achieve personal and family spiritual growth and enrichment through study, prayer, worship, and service to others. Our Core Values
Sound Doctrine—We are committed to let the Bible say what it means and mean what it says. Sincerity of Heart—We want to be real and genuine in faith, relationships, and service. Simplicity of programs & methods—We strive to offer a personal touch to everything we do. Sacrifice for Christ, the Church, and each other—We want the Christian life to be our passion and not just a hobby.

We have moved! Our Sunday services have relocated with the sale of our property. Since doing so we have been unable to broadcast our worship services. We are working to find a suitable solution so that we can do so again. Your prayers and patience are greatly appreciated.

“Have we come to the place where God can withdraw his blessings and it does not affect our trust in him!”

“The people of God have blended in so well with the nations around them that they are indistinguishable from those nations.

“We are to be different from the world. We live by different standards and rules. God has not once told us to fit into the world, but he has repeatedly told us to stand apart from the world. It’s hard to argue with logic that concludes that a bird that looks like a duck and walks like a duck and quacks like a duck must be a duck. By this same logic, those who live and think and talk and act like the world must belong to the world even if they claim to belong to God… Those who belong to God will stand out from the world, not blend into it.”
(From “Thought for the Day,” October 13)

“Isn’t it piercing to realize that God not only knows where we live, but also knows the gutters into which we crawl?… No human being knows human beings as God does.”
(Oswald Chambers; “My Utmost for His Highest,” Oct 4; updated edition, edited by James Reimann)

“Not only must the inner sanctuary (i.e., our heart) be kept right with God, but also the outer courts (i.e., our lifestyle)… If we want to maintain personal intimacy with the Lord Jesus, it will mean refusing to do or even think certain things. And some things that are acceptable to others will become unacceptable to us.”
(Oswald Chambers, “My Utmost for His Highest,” March 26 entry, updated edition by J.Reimann)

“By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.”
(Hebrews 11:8)

“We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on You!”
(2 Chronicles 20:12)

Abraham did not know what the future held (and neither do we!), but he knew the One who held the future!

King Jehoshaphat had no idea how to deal with the challenge before him (and neither do we!), but he knew the One who did—and he kept his eyes on Him!

In my Sunday sermon I noted that, though the terms “disciple” and “Christian” are often used synonymously (and, in a sense, rightly so), the terms are technically different. Driving home, I was discussing those differences with my wife, and with wisdom so characteristic of her, she made this insightful observation: “A disciple is one who follows Jesus; a Christian is one who strives to be LIKE Jesus.”

In today’s (March 18) entry of the daily devotional, “My Utmost for His Highest,” Oswald Chambers wrote: “By sanctification the Son of God is formed in me.” (“Sanctification” is a Bible word referring to the on-going change, or transformation, taking place in the lives of those who have yielded to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. That’s what the Apostle Paul was talking about in 2 Corinthians 3:18 where he said that “We all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into His image with ever-increasing glory.”)

If, in fact, we have made Jesus Savior and Lord, we will not only follow Him and obey Him, but we will do everything in our power to be like Him.

At the end of his devotional thought, Chambers asked two great questions: “Is God getting His way with me?” and “Are other people beginning to see God in my life more and more?” Answering those questions honestly will give us some clue as to whether we are disciples or Christians.

Attention Bible readers! As always, our Bible reading for the month of February is the book of Acts—one chapter each day.

Since this February has 29 days, we will end the month by reading psalm 150.

On Sunday, during our annual meeting, we briefly discussed service. How interesting to read the following today in light of that discussion—and it opens the door to further thought and discussion.

“Service…is the echo of my identification with the nature of God. Service is the natural part of my life… I do things out of sheer love for Him. To serve God is the deliberate love-gift of a nature that has heard the call of God… I serve Him in the ordinary ways of life out of devotion to Him.”
(Oswald Chambers; “My Utmost for His Highest”; Jan.17)

In the aftermath of Christmas, when our greedy hearts are tempted to race at the thought of the bargains we might find at those “after Christmas sales,” Oswald Chambers’ words sting a little.

Chambers first quotes Jesus who said, “One’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses” (Luke 12:15). Then he says this:

“If we don’t see and understand this, it is because we are ignoring the underlying principles of our Lord’s teaching… If a New Testament standard is revealed to us by the light of God, and we don’t try to measure up, or even feel inclined to do so, then we begin to backslide. It means your conscience does not respond to the truth. You can never be the same after the unveiling of a truth. That moment marks you as one who either continues on with even more devotion as a disciple of Jesus Christ, or as one who turns to go back as a deserter.”
(“My Utmost for His Highest;” December 29)

Buying and having nice things is certainly not wrong in itself, but when the desire for things is greater than the desire to honor the Lord, or when our love of things is greater than our love of Christ, we are less a disciple and more a deserter of the Faith.

“Being faithful to Jesus Christ is the most difficult thing we will try to do today. We will be faithful to our work, to serving others, or to anything rlse; just do ask us to be faithful to Jesus Christ …. Our Lord is dethroned more deliberately by Christian workers than by the world. We treat God as if He were a machine designed only to bless us, and we think of Jesus as just another one of the workers. (But) the goal of faithfulness is not that we will do work for God, but that He will be free to do His work through us.”
(Oswald Chambers; “My Utmost for His Highest: updated version, edited by James Rermans; December 18)

“Do not boast about tomorrow for you do not know what a day may bring.”
(Proverbs 27:1)

“Go ahead and make plans. Failing to plan is planning to fail, but planning without praying is presumption.”
(Mark Batterson; “Win the Day.”)

“We can dare to do much after we pray, but we dare not do anything until we have prayed.”
