Brown Bag Ministries of Indiana

Brown Bag Ministries of Indiana Brown Bag Ministries supplies food, water, clothing and hygiene items to the needy in downtown Indianapolis. We are self funded.

Thanks to our volunteers and contributors we can begin our third year with great hope. This is God's ministry and he has supplied everything and MORE, than what we need to show his love to those most often forgotten.

To those of you who follow us. Please know that we are working on keeping our page updated at all times. For those who wish to know more about the homeless situation in Indy and what our city is or is not doing, please go to "Uncharted" twitter page and sign up for tickets to a free screening of the documentary filmed here in Indy. Also we have a new branch forming and that is our mid week "Encouragement Group", held in the library on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each week. This is lead by Pearl Skelton and Lori Blume. You can contact either of them, via Facebook, for more information. We are continuing to grow and effect the homeless of Indianapolis, we are looking to God to supply us with a building, whether to own or just use, we will be a presence in Indianapolis!!
Blessings!!

As the cold bitter winter weather moves in, Please pray for the homeless, the needy and the less fortunate. Here is a posting from the Salvation Army;
SALVATION ARMY PREPARES TO OPEN WARMING CENTERS IN RESPONSE TO WINTER STORM AND EXTREME COLD

Indianapolis- As the snow and extreme cold move into Central Indiana, The Salvation Army is preparing to serve those with emergency needs during the storm. Starting Monday, The Salvation Army will open several of its facilities as Warming Centers for anyone needing shelter from the extreme conditions. Each Warming Center will provide hot drinks, water, snacks and some basic meal options such as sandwiches.

The Warming Centers will be open from 9 AM until 8 PM and the locations are as follows: The Salvation Army Fountain Square Community Center - 1337 Shelby Street, The Salvation Army Center City Corps - 234 E. Michigan Street, The Salvation Army Eagle Creek Community Center - 4400 N. High School Road. If Marion County Emergency Management requests a 24 hour shelter, The Salvation Army Eagle Creek Community Center will be able serve in that capacity.

The Salvation Army is working directly with Marion County Emergency Management and will continue to serve those who need shelter as the extreme weather continues.

Yesterday we served all of the volunteers dinner, before we began, about 50 of us, dished up 50 dinners for Kathy's nuring home ministry, fed about 100 people from the towers and sent about 100 dinners out with Preston and Connie. We gave away all of the desserts that were left and all of the drinks, the people really appreciated that. ALTHOUGH there were only about 100 from the Towers, they came through the line MANY times. One man we know came through 5 or 6 times. One little girl came through about 5 times. We were told that there had been organizations do this for them before BUT then they added......nothing of this magnitude and never this good of food. I want to thank everyone involved and tell you that you are making a HUGE difference in Indianapolis. MANY of the residents saw our BBM shirts and said they either knew of us from Roberts Park or someone had told them about us. Word is getting out that we really care about them and that is good because one day we will have that building. May God rain Blessings down on each of you who came and "Ran the good Race." Love and Hugs!!

Here is VERY important information about our Wishard Christmas Festival.
Hope Lane
Hey Clare! Here is an update in order to prepare for December 22.
Parking: Park in the new Eskenazi garage. They will not begin charging for parking until January so you should be able to park as many cars as you want for free. Park on Level 2, but meet me by the back elevators, closest to the hospital and not the street. I will meet you there and es**rt you to the unit.
Volunteers: We would only recommend a max of 15 volunteers so to not be overwhelming to the patients. If anyone is hesitant about working with this population we understand, but would not recommend coming out as it won't be beneficial to them. I will let you know ahead of time if there will be anyone or anything of concerns. All must be over 18 and maintain strict confidentiality. Like we've talked about before showing the love of Christ reaches farther than quoting every scripture in the bible and we must maintain a professional boundary to an extent. You are certainly able to speak much more openly than any staff member. Just remember the patient may not be ready for it. Use best judgment.
Maurice: I will arrange a time for pick up, but could one of you get him on the way to the second location?
Gifts: We will purchase right before the event to match our current census. We will have them wrapped and ready, but I will let you know if we need any help with this for some reason. If you want to bring anything else please let me know ahead of time. No food can be brought in unless store bought and prepared at the store. The CD's will have to get locked up in property, but they can have them as a gift. The check will get cashed next week for the gifts.
Food: Will all be provided and volunteers are welcome to eat with patients. This is a great opportunity to meet with them.
Extras: If you will have bibles or books they can have those too...and will love them. I will find out about if you can hand out tracts.
Music: They love to be able to sing along with Christmas carols so this would be an easy and good idea if you can swing it. I can play if need be, but would prefer not so that I can help manage anything taking place.
I think this covers it, but please ask me if you have ANY questions. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!

WOW, WOW, WOW. I do not have nor can I find the words to describe this day!! The food, contributed by Agape International Rescue, was a HUGE success!! I know we fed close to 200 people today. The food was HOT and tasty. We did not have anything left except a few toothbrushes. The men in line said to thank "AIR" for the delicious food. We were thanked over and over for being there and loving the people. We actually had one man say that our faces sparkled with the love of God. Whew, think that doesn't take your breathe away?? After downtown a lot of us went to the Lions Club in Claremont to set up for the Veterans dinner tonight, after that I met with Ann Bowman to discuss the Barton Towers dinner. On my way home I spoke with my chiropractor, a wonderful christian man, who told me he was at the rumage sale for St. Malachi school and he was going to pick up several large bags of jeans and coats for the ministry. WOW. Now it is time for a shower and to get ready for the Veterans dinner. Since I have been up since 4:30, I think after the dinner I will come home and say good night to the world and thank God for all he has helped us to do today. Blessings everyone. — feeling blessed.
