The year was 1956. A shy little girl, eyes downcast, stood anxiously waiting as a crowd began to fill the room of the small country school. Although she knew most of the adults in attendance, she had never spoken before so many. She had been chosen to read the devotional before the meeting began. At a nod from the adult in charge, she stepped forward to the bible that had been opened to the passage she was to read. As her eyes quickly scanned the verses, a sense of peace filled her as she read in a firm, clear voice -
"Let not your heart be troubled, you believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house there are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also." John 14:1 - 3
Jesus was speaking to His disciples, after His resurrection and before His ascension, assuring them they would never be forsaken or forgotten.
That shy little girl was me, and more than 60 years later that is one of my favorite bible passages. It gives me peace in the knowledge that Jesus IS coming back and has prepared a place for those who love Him and obey the commandments we were given. Such a wonderful promise that a place is ready for us to live with Him in eternity!
God knows there are none perfect on this earth, yet His love, mercy and grace forgives us if we but ask, believing on Jesus Christ the Son. We were not promised an easy life but were promised a place in His heavenly realm through belief and repentance. There is no sin greater than what God will forgive when we humble ourselves before Him and ask forgiveness.
