God has made his faithfulness known to us from generation to generation. And He has declared it’s better to do justice than sacrifice. Through the Bible, we hear again and again how He rescued His people, releasing them from bo***ge so that they might live fully and freely as His children.

“Today is an opportunity to do both look back but to look ahead to make sure that notion of freedom and the fragility of it is always protected and celebrated”

There is still time to sign up for our Life in the Spirit class which begins THIS SUNDAY!

We believe in the present-day work of the Holy Spirit among God’s people. We understand that walking in the power of God is part of normal Christian living, so it is important that we learn more of who the Spirit is and what it means to be filled with His life! This class is an opportunity for greater awareness of the Holy Spirit and deeper experience of his power. It is also one of our membership classes.

The class runs for 3 weeks: May 26th, June 2nd & June 9th from 11:30am-1:30pm. Light lunch will be provided!

*Signing up for 1 ticket ensures you are signed up for all 3 weeks.*

Due to the nature and content of the class, the 3 sessions of this class MUST BE TAKEN CONSECUTIVELY.

Day Three: The Father Pours Out the Spirit

This passage references an Old Testament prophetic word from Joel 2:28. It spoke of the day when the Holy Spirit of God would be poured out onto His sons and daughters. This centuries old prophecy had finally become a reality for the first followers of Jesus. It is a reality that is true for us today as well.

God’s blessings don’t end when we get saved. In many ways, that’s where they begin. Like a
Russian nesting doll that has prizes hidden within prizes, we continue to uncover more and
more gifts from God.

READ: Acts 2:17-18

Respond.

• Make a list of the reasons why God would pour out His Spirit on us. Consider the many
ways the Holy Spirit helps us every day.
• Spend a moment in prayer asking God for a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Ask Him
to pour out His Spirit this Easter season. Pray that we would be a church where His
Spirit is pleased to be poured out.

Day Two: Jesus Pours Out His Life

We pour out our love on Jesus because Jesus poured out His life for us. The perfect sacrifice
that Jesus made on our behalf - being counted as someone who had sinned, even though He
had done nothing wrong - was the sacrifice necessary for our salvation.

In making this sacrifice, the Bible says he “makes intercession for the transgressors”. To
intercede simply means to “step between”. This gives us the picture of Jesus seeing us in grave
danger - a danger we were totally unaware of and unable to save ourselves from. Jesus steps
between us and the danger so that we could be saved. He pours out his life for us, so that we
might be counted among the righteous.

READ: Isaiah 53:12

Respond.

1. What are some of the things God has saved you from? How did Jesus intercede for you
in those moments?
2. Who has God placed on your heart, or in your life, to intercede on behalf of? How can
you intercede for them today?
3. Spend a moment in prayer thanking God that Jesus poured all of himself out for you.
Pray for the salvation of the lost. Ask God to reveal himself to those who have not yet
known His love.

Day One: We Pour Out Our Love

Easter gives us the chance to consider the cost of Christ pouring out his life for ours - a sacrificial act done out of great love for us because we are valuable in God’s eyes. As we consider the sacrifice of Christ, we ought to consider what we are willing to sacrifice for Him. If we are to pour out our love on Jesus it ought to be because we see Him as the most valuable thing in our lives.

Mary brought her most valuable possession to Jesus - an alabaster flask of ointment. Knowing that there is nothing more valuable than Him, she poured out all she had. In response, Jesus says that she had “done a beautiful thing to me.” This is the only place in scripture where he says that.

READ: Matthew 26:6-11

Respond.

1. What does it look like for you to pour out your love on Jesus?
2. What is God asking you to sacrifice for Him?

3. Spend a moment in prayer thanking God for Jesus - for His love and for His sacrifice. Let God know how much Jesus’ sacrifice means to you. Ask Him how you can do something beautiful for him.

| DAY 5

The commitment to holiness is an inward devotion to Christ resulting in an outward expression. As we draw near to God and allow his Spirit to change us from the inside out, he fills our hearts and minds with his wisdom, strength, and love. He empowers us to respond to challenges and defend our faith with gentleness and respect.

Reflection: What responses have you given in the past when others have criticized or questioned you about your faith?

Reflection: Ask God to fill you with wisdom, gentleness, and respect so you will be “prepared to make a defense” to those who ask about your faith.

Read Scripture: 1 Peter 3:13–16

| Day 4

The cross of Christ is essential to the gospel message. We thank Jesus that his death
on the cross reconciled us to God. For us today, crucifixion is an unfamiliar practice. In Jesus’ culture, crucifixion was a shameful and tortuous way to die. It was a method the Romans used to torment and humiliate perpetrators, and they used their victims as a forewarning to others. At face value, Christ’s death was supposed to be a warning—“If you live the way this man lived, you will die.” But in reality, it was freedom—“He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness.” Crucifixion
represented unholiness, yet Christ took our sins upon himself so that we could be holy.

Reflection: Reflect on the significance of the cross and Christ’s sacrifice for you.

Reflection: What does it mean for your faith journey knowing that holiness hinges upon the cross of Christ?

| DAY 3

Peter instructs his readers that as they abstain from temporal passions, they must also strive to do good. There are things not to do and also things they should do. He tells them to live in a way that is respectable, even by nonbelievers, and, as they see God’s people doing good deeds, they might come to worship God.
But what does this kind of gospel-centered good conduct look like? Even people who don’t follow Christ can do things that are considered “good.” What sets apart the conduct of a believer from that of a nonbeliever is the holy example of Christ. We must
look to Jesus as the model for how to live out holiness through our conduct. His example and teachings are applicable in any culture at any point in time. Why? Because God’s character is immutable—he never changes.

Reflection: How does your lifestyle consistently honor God in both public and private spaces?

Reflection: How has your conduct been a reflection of God’s holiness to others around you?

Read Scripture: 1 Peter 2:10–12

| Day 2

What or where do you consider “home”? Maybe it’s the neighborhood you grew
up in, the city you and your family relocated to, or a nation you had to leave behind
unexpectedly. Sojourners and exiles have a unique relationship to “home.” Sojourners are travelers who pass through a place for a short time until they reach a specific destination. Exiles are those who have been sent away or even banished from their homelands. By calling his readers “sojourners” and “exiles” in 1 Peter 2:11, Peter challenges their sense of home. He’s being clear—they’re temporary residents in this world, living in a place that’s not really their home. Until Christ returns, they must live as redeemed and holy people in a fallen world.

Reflection: Does the idea of being a “sojourner” or “exile” change your perspective of the world around you?

Reflection: Are there practical things you can do today to abstain from the passions of the flesh?

Read Scripture: 1 Peter 2:10-11

Day 01

In the Old Testament, the temple was the dwelling place of God. It was set apart and
consecrated for worshiping Yahweh, but Peter is showing us that we, the people of God,
are now set apart and consecrated for the worship of God. We are being built together as a spiritual house, a royal priesthood that ushers in the presence of God wherever we are. The community of holiness is God’s consecrated people, filled with his presence to declare his perfect goodness.

Reflection: Think of believers in your life that have been integral to your walk with Christ. Spend time thanking God for placing them in your life.

Reflection Question: How can you use your God-given gifts and talents to serve
your local church?

Read Scripture: 1 Peter 2:4-9

| Introduction

God is holy in all his ways, completely set apart in his essence and character. So what does it mean for us to be holy? As twenty-first-century readers, we’re quick to define “holy” as a behavior God expects us to achieve. However, the Hebrew word for holy, “qadosh,” means consecrated, sanctified, dedicated, set apart, and separated from the world.

God’s call to holiness is more than simply changing our actions or something to achieve: it’s a call to set our hope on the grace of God through Jesus to be fully transformed and to live set apart.

Join us for our Christmas Eve service at 5:00pm as we celebrate the birth of Christ with worship, sermon and lighting of the final advent candle. There will also be a special moment for the children during the service!

This is a family service meaning we will not be offering separate KB ministry and LFT service that day. We believe this is a special time to come to church as a family, hearing the power of the gospel as displayed in the Christmas story together.

Stick around after service for loads of Christmas fun! 🎄
