Phos Church

Phos Church A church located in the heart of Sterling Heights, Michigan. Our mission: Love God. Love the one. Make disciples.

PHOS CHURCH has undergone many different eras, dating all the way back to 1913. What began as a small neighborhood Sunday School group in the city of Detroit transformed through the blessing of God into an established organization. The church officially began in 1921 when it joined the Missionary Church Association under the name of Kerwin Missionary Church. Four years later, the congregation move

d buildings and was renamed Eastlawn Missionary Church. By the 60s, the church numbers were in decline due to many in the congregation migrating to the suburbs of Metro Detroit. In early 1970s, the current building was constructed in Sterling Heights. In May of 1999, 25 years after the first service, the name of the church was changed to Parkside Community Church. Throughout 2019 and 2020, the church appealed to the Missionary Church Association for a new, young pastor to come in and revitalize both the congregation and the surrounding area. PHOS CHURCH is the fresh revival of an institution with nearly 100 years of history. We hope to see the Lord work through us as we bring the Light to the world for the next 100 years.

Teaching Tuesday!

This week in our Phōs Bible Institute class, Story of the Church, we studied the Ecumenical Councils of the first eight centuries of church history.

As the Church grew, leaders gathered to address false teachings, clarify biblical doctrine, and preserve unity among believers. These councils helped answer some of the most important questions about the nature of Christ, the Trinity, and the core beliefs of the Christian faith.

Many doctrines Christians hold today were carefully defended and articulated during these gatherings, helping preserve the faith passed down from the apostles.

Join us Sundays at 9:30 AM before service as we continue exploring the story of the Church and how God has faithfully guided His people through the centuries.

This week we kicked off a new series (Part II of the Gospel of Luke). We looked at how Jesus shifted His focus from Galilee to Jerusalem. Jesus knew the weight He would ultimately bear in Jerusalem and made it clear to those desiring to follow that following Him would be costly and it would be worth it.

After about 5 months in the Gospel of Luke to start the year in our...

Throwback Thursday! A powerful reminder from last Sunday’s sermon.

The church was never meant to be a place for pretending. Instead the church is a place for healing. A place where grace is greater than guilt, where confession meets compassion, and where broken people encounter the restoring love of Jesus.

It’s not always easy to do, but what if we as the church became known less for image and more for honesty? Less for perfection and more for restoration?

Teaching Tuesday

Week 2 of our Phōs Bible Institute class, Story of the Church, took us into the lives and writings of the Apostolic Fathers the generation that bridged the apostles to the early church. These leaders carried the faith forward with a deep focus on unity, sound doctrine, humility, and faithfulness to Christ.

We explored:

Clement of Rome — calling the church to unity, humility, and healthy leadership rooted in apostolic teaching.

Ignatius of Antioch — boldly defending the true humanity and divinity of Jesus while urging believers to stay united as one Church.

The Didache — an early church manual giving practical instruction on baptism, fasting, communion, and Christian living.

One thing became clear: The early church wasn’t built on comfort and instead it was built on conviction, discipleship, and devotion to Jesus.

Join us for future classes Sunday at 9:30 AM, immediately before service, as we continue walking through the story of the Church together
