Dear Families,

Nestled in the heart of Erath County, Texas, Pilot K**b Cemetery stands as a quiet but powerful reminder of the generations who built our community. Established circa 1884, it is more than a resting place—it is a living record of our shared history, heritage, and identity.

Today, that history is at risk.

Time, weather, and natural aging have taken a toll on many of the cemetery’s monuments and grounds. Headstones are leaning or deteriorating, inscriptions are fading, and sections of the cemetery require careful restoration to preserve their integrity. Without immediate action, we risk losing irreplaceable pieces of our local story.

The Pilot K**b Cemetery Association has launched a omprehensive Preservation & Restoration Initiative to ensure this historic site is protected for future generations.

This effort includes:
• Restoration and stabilization of damaged headstones
• Preservation of historical inscriptions and markers
• Grounds maintenance and long-term care planning
• Documentation and mapping of burial sites

We are inviting you to be a part of this important mission.

Your contribution—no matter the size—will directly support the preservation of Pilot K**b Cemetery and the legacy it represents. Every dollar helps restore a monument, protect a story, and honor those who came before us.

Ways You Can Help:
• Make a Donation: Support restoration and preservation efforts
• Adopt-a-Headstone: Sponsor the restoration of a specific grave
• Volunteer: Participate in cemetery cleanup and preservation days

As a donor, you will play a meaningful role in safeguarding a piece of Texas history. Contributions may also be eligible for tax-deductible treatment under qualifying nonprofit status.

We would be honored to have your support.

If you would like to contribute or learn more, please contact us at (540) 623-9889 or [email protected] , or visit us on Facebook

Thank you for your time, your consideration, and your commitment to preserving the heritage of our cemetery.

With sincere appreciation,
Pilot K**b Cemetery Association
Erath County, Texas

October 18, 2025 PKCA Cemetery Clean-up - we cleaned some of the headstones that were in pretty bad shape. We hope to do more soon. We are also looking into the cost to have some of the headstones repaired that have broken or are leaning and have the potential to break if not repaired.

Here is a before and after picture of William Harvey Forgay's headstone. I think it looks amazing. Thank you Jason Zitzelberger for all the hard work that you put into cleaning the headstones!

I just wanted to give you a little cemetery history!
William Harvey Forgay is the father of Lottie (Forgay) Pierce. The wife of Thomas Jefferson Pierce. They were the original owners of the cemetery land and they sold it to Owen Griffin Norris, Sr. (1858-1934) and John Exsom Norris (1833-1914) that donated a piece of the land for the cemetery.

I look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow at the Pilot K**b Cemetery Clean-up!

I will be bringing some cleaner, recommended by the historical society, to clean as many headstones as we can. We will hit the worst ones first. There are still many headstones that are in need of repair.

We will also have some contractor bags to haul off as much of the trash as possible to include leaves, brush, etc.

If you have any pictures that you would like included in the Pilot K**b Historical Book then please make sure you upload them here to Meta/Facebook or scan and email them to me. I am in the middle of writing a book about Pilot K**b and the many families that are buried there and would love to include pictures of your loved ones if you are interested.

May God bless you all,
Debra
