Never. Stop. Praying. We may think that coming before God with the same request is redundant, and God will stop listening. God wants our prayers. God uses our prayers to guide us into aligning our will with His. The more we come to God in prayer, the more opportunities we have to understand how to pray and what to pray for. The more we pray, the closer we come to God. The closer we come to God, the more we pray. It’s a cycle that brings peace to our lives and life to our relationships. God hears our prayers. And He answers them in the perfect way at the perfect time. The more we come to Him in prayer, the better our understanding of His will for our lives and the more aware we are of Him at work around us.

Sometimes it’s easier to do something hard if we see someone else go first. The fact that someone else can do it gives us the boost we need to do it ourselves. That’s what Jesus did. He went first. He didn’t wait for us to come to Him. He made the first move and loved us first. Knowing that changes how we live because what we do and how we live isn’t an attempt to win His favor. It’s in response to what He has already done. He loved us first. He paved the way. He showed us what can be done so we can have the confidence to do the same to others. Not in order to be loved by Him, but because we already are.

Living like Jesus. It’s like a theme that keeps running through scripture. He set the standard. He was the example. It’s up to us to follow. The kind of love Jesus showed was sacrificial. That’s the standard. Love means sacrifice. Showing it when we don’t want to; when we don’t feel the other person deserves it; when we just don’t feel like we have it in us. We have an example to follow. Will we always do it like Jesus? No. His love was perfection. But we know that’s the mark we are aiming for. He’s the standard we can measure ourselves by. His love for us was sacrificial. He wants us to try to do the same. And when we feel frustrated, when we feel inadequate or need refilling ourselves, He wants us to go to Him. Sit in prayer with Him. And get filled back up so we can take what He gives us and give it to others.

How important are we really? How good are we? How much better are we than others? Jesus was God in the flesh. God. Yet he came to this world in human form as a servant. He is everything, yet He made Himself nothing. He did that for you. For me. For all. Imagine what power He had available to Him. Imagine what He could have done. Instead He chose to live serving others. We are asked to have the same mindset. Jesus left Heaven for us. It’s not costing us a thing to try to live like Him. “What would Jesus do?” Isn’t just a catchy phrase for a T-shirt. We should ask ourselves that question over and over again in our relationships with others.

In our day-to-day, face-to-face lives, our sphere of daily influence is probably small. We live our lives with the same people every day, and we surround ourselves with like-minded friends and family. So when we profess to be a Christian, the people around us probably already know that. In today’s online world, though, people show up for the single purpose of shaming others. They hide behind a profile, with no face-to-face interaction. The people who insult you in today’s world insult with a fury. It can make us feel intimidated and even nervous to say anything about God online. But this verse says that we are blessed every time we are insulted because we profess our belief in and love of God. The enemy attacks harder the stronger our faith is. We don’t live to please faceless trolls. We live to please God. We take the insults and praise God that we are blessed to know Him and walk with Him daily.
