Sunday at Scott’s Chapel and Christ Boulevard United Methodist Church: we journey back to 1980’s Miami with the Golden Girls. Perhaps you’d like to sit a spell on the lanai or have some cheesecake, regardless we will explore friendship with Jesus and what it looks like. Hopefully by the end the church will be saying “Thank you for being a friend…”

I’m grateful to be there to preach while the Rev. Sara Scruggs is able to enjoy the sermon for a few weeks this fall.

Today, we are celebrating a momentous occasion!
Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson is the FIRST Black woman to serve on the highest court. Let us pray for her as she takes this position. May God use her mightily so that she may be a channel of justice in this nation.

Friends,
I was saddened and horrified when I learned that many Jewish people in Greensboro received antisemitic leaflets at their homes this morning. The flyers deliberately and falsely linked the Jewish community to the spread of Covid.

Wherever you land on the various descriptors of social and political affiliations, you know that lying and hating are wrong. Please don't be a participant in activities like this, and please don't stand by silently while others do.

Believe in love, and behave in love.
Believe in justice, and behave with justice.
Believe in peace, and behave in peace.

Those of us who believe in peace, love, and justice have to work overtime these days. Please support each other in persisting during these difficult times.

If you are blessed with Jewish friends, tonight would be a good time to remind them that you love them and are praying for an end to hate and violence.
