Interested in Summer Missions Trips? Here are some details about our trip to Curahuasi, Peru:
- Trip dates are tentatively July 14 - 24.
- Travel: 3 flights to get to Curahuasi, Peru. A flight to Miami, then Lima, then Cusco. From there, is it a 2 hour bus ride through the mountains to arrive in Curahuasi. We will spend 7 days in Curahuasi. At the end of our trip, we will plan to visit Macchu Picchu, which is one of the 7 wonders of the world. There will also be a bit of time for shopping at the end of the trip.
- Possible ministries: Construction will be happening. Phase 1 of The Children’s Home should be completed soon, but they will begin Phase 2 as soon as possible which will be a building for a Kitchen and Bath House for the children. Other probably ministries include: Bible Clubs in neighboring villages, Sports ministries, Ladies ministries, working with the children in the orphanage, and assisting with any other needs while we are there. Once we know who is interested in going, we can make some better plans for ministries that can happen while we’re there.
- Age restriction: Ages 10 and up. (For youth leaders - If there are a large number of youth interested, we will need to evaluate a proper adult to youth ratio.)
- Language: In Peru, Spanish is the primary language. We’d like to have a good group of people going who speak some Spanish. If you do not speak any Spanish, we will try to learn a few basics before we go. We will have people with us the entire time who can interpret. But to interact with the locals, you really need to know Spanish.
- Safety concerns: The area of Peru that we are in does feel safe. We always walk in pairs though. And ALL females, even young females, are required to wear pants or capris for the entire time that we’re there. Shorts for females are not allowed, even in sports ministry. Conservative dress is always expected for both males and females. Smoking is not allowed at all on the trip, this is viewed as a bad example for Christians by the local Peruvians and they believe it hurts their witness.
- Cost: $2000 total. $500 deposit due by Feb. 1, with $500 payments to be made by March 1, April 1, and May 1. We can discuss possible fundraisers as well.
- Note: The Heath family will be speaking at Front St. on Dec. 27. If you haven’t met them or would like to talk with them about Peru, this will be a great opportunity for that.
