CTK's Jose Alvarado: Meeting Pressure with Poise

At Christ the King (), excellence isn’t just grades—it’s also what Hemingway called grace under pressure. Jose Alvarado, a Brooklyn native and CTK graduate, embodied this on basketball's biggest stage: calm during the storm, disciplined in the moment, and at his best when everything was on the line, showing exactly how CTK students are formed to lead with composure, courage, and purpose. In the Knicks’ stunning 29‑point comeback, Jose came off the bench to coolly deliver 8 clutch points, 3 key assists, 2 timely rebounds, and relentless defense when his team needed him most. Three down. One to go. LGK!

Nova Knicks Seek Historic Championship!

Knicks stars Jalen Brunson, Mikal Bridges and Josh Hart attended , a Catholic university founded in 1842, and the oldest Catholic university in Pennsylvania. As a Catholic university, Villanova emphasizes intellectual, spiritual and ethical growth. This type of education fosters resilience and maturity amid pro‑level pressure, as well as the ability and perspective to see emotional stress, wins, losses, and fame in a larger context of faith, relationships, and long‑term purpose, so that the game remains important but not ultimate. The trio are attempting to add an NBA championship to their shared Villanova national championship titles from 2016 and 2018. If they succeed, they will become the first trio of teammates to win both an NCAA and an NBA championship together. Two down! Two to Go! LGK!

The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ

We warmly invite you to watch the Holy Mass from St. Patrick's Cathedral: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ePAHRwozI8&t=7s

Dear Beloved in Christ,

As we draw our hearts to stillness to contemplate the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ—His Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity, offered upon the Cross and made present at every Mass—we kneel before the great mystery of divine love. Here our deepest hunger is satisfied, our wounds are touched by grace, and we are drawn into communion with the Father through the Son in the Holy Spirit. In the Holy Eucharist, Christ unites us as one Church and strengthens us for holiness. With gratitude and awe, we entrust ourselves to Him, knowing that every “Amen” at Holy Communion is our humble response to His eternal and unfailing love.

May peace be with you...

Karl-Anthony Towns -- who scored 18 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, made four assists, and blocked one shot in the Knicks' game 1 win of the NBA finals -- demonstrates the importance of a Catholic education and the benefits of the discipline it instills, as discipline is a foundational pillar for succeeding in life. "KAT," as he is known, is a product of Saint Joseph High School in Metuchen New Jersey, where he led his teams to state championships in 2012, 2013 and 2014. KAT graduated from Saint Joseph High School - Metuchen, NJ with a 3.96 GPA, was named the 2014 Gatorade Player of the Year, and went on to attend the University of Kentucky (a basketball powerhouse) before being selected first in the 2015 NBA draft, and being named Rookie of the Year in 2015. He had an amazing career with the Minnesota Timberwolves before joining the Knicks in 2024. Congratulations to the big KAT and all of the Knicks! One down! Three to go! LGK!

Dear Beloved in Christ,

Today we stand in wonder before the most sublime mystery of our faith — the Most Holy Trinity — as Holy Mother Church bids us lift our hearts in adoration to the One God who is, in the eternal depths of His being, a communion of Three Divine Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, distinct yet inseparable, co-equal and co-eternal, bound in a love so infinite and so perfect that it is itself a Person. It was the Father who so loved the world that He sent His only-begotten Son (John 3:16), that same eternal Word made flesh who walked among us, suffered, died, and rose for our redemption, and who breathed upon His apostles the gift of the Holy Spirit — the Paraclete, the Lord and Giver of Life, who even now dwells within our souls through sanctifying grace, making us temples of the living God.

On this most solemn day, and always, may peace be with you...

The Feast Day of Saint Philip Neri, Patron Saint of Rome

Dear Beloved in Christ,

Today the Church rejoices on a radiant soul who abandoned worldly comfort to walk the streets of Rome as a lay apostle, spending thirteen selfless years in prayer and service before embracing the priesthood with all the fire of his great heart. Philip was no ordinary saint — he was the beloved Patron of Joy, a mystic who levitated during Mass and a confessor of uncanny spiritual insight who pierced the deepest illusions of the soul with a knowing smile, for he believed that cheerfulness strengthens the heart and makes us persevere in a good life. At a moment when Rome was morally adrift and the Church embattled by the Reformation, it was Philip's luminous, laughing, unconquerable joy — not condemnation — that drew sinners and cardinals alike back toward holiness, and his tender genius that gave birth to the Congregation of the Oratory, that beautiful community gathered not in dread but in love, in music, in prayer, and in the sheer delight of God's presence. And so, as we honor this Saint who showed us that holiness and humor can dwell together in one consecrated heart, let us ask him to pray for us, that we too might carry joy as our apostolate, and love as our only weapon.

May peace be with you, beloved...

Pentecost Sunday: The Culmination of the Easter Season

We warmly invite you to watch the Pentecost Sunday Mass from Saint Patrick's Cathedral: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=repNtCrPx1s

Dear Beloved in Christ,

Today we celebrate the great and glorious feast of Pentecost — the fiftieth and final day of the Easter season, the very birthday of the Holy Church, when the Holy Spirit descended upon the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Apostles gathered in the Upper Room as tongues of fire, filling them with divine courage, wisdom, and the sacred gift of tongues, that all nations might hear and receive the Good News of our Risen Lord. This is the fulfillment of Christ’s tender promise — ‘I will not leave you orphans’ — the great outpouring of the Third Person of the Most Holy Trinity upon the Church, who came to dwell within the hearts of the faithful in a new and abiding way, sanctifying, guiding, and animating the Body of Christ on earth until the end of ages.

On this day we wear red, the color of fire and blood, honoring both the Spirit's flame and the martyrs who bore witness to that same Spirit; we renew our openness to His seven gifts — wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord — and we rejoice that through Baptism and Confirmation, that same fire lives within each of us, making us temples of the living God, co-heirs with Christ, and missionaries of His inexhaustible love, sent forth as the Apostles were sent, into a world aching for peace.

May peace be upon you, beloved, this holy and radiant day — the peace of the Spirit who hovered over the waters at creation and who even now hovers over your heart, whispering tenderly that you are loved, you are chosen, and you are never alone.
