We’re going to prove it this Sunday, August 16, 2026 at 11 am, in the church backyard, weather permitting.

Our Summer Singalong will include favorites from both hymnals, plus feel-good, get-your-frustrations-out songs from composers like Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger.

Multi-Generational Day of Remembrance on the Hiroshima Nagasaki 81st Anniversary

August 9, 2026, Sunday, 1 PM - 3 PM

Almost every August since 2002, Peace Action of Staten Island (PASI) and the Unitarian Church of Staten Island (UCSI) have collaborated to commemorate the anniversary of the 1945 atom bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

The use of the atom bomb in August 1945 brought the world into the nuclear age. Eighty-one years later, the world faces a new nuclear arms race and the spread of new nuclear reactors world wide.

Remembering Hiroshima and Nagasaki and passing on the stories and knowledge to the next generation is more important than ever.

PASI and UCSI will come together for a multi-generational Day of Remembrance to tell the story of the atom bomb through the eyes of a young girl who survived the bombing and through the interpretative performances of the Young Musicians of Staten Island.

After the story and performances, younger participants will be invited to participate in creating an art for peace project.

Their older siblings, parents and adults will be invited to a discussion about “What We Mean by Nuclear-Free.” A panel of Staten Island environmentalists and activists, moderated by Jack Bolembach, will share their knowledge about the race to spread nuclear technology, both civilian and military, to more countries around the world.

Free and open to the public. Light refreshments.

UCSI Summer Series 2026

The Veranda Cafe restaurant is located at 915 Victory Blvd Staten Island NY 10301.

Please RSVP to [email protected] by Saturday, July 25 at 11 AM so that we may save you a seat.

Comb your closet, search your drawers and don your summer whites (any shade is welcome, your choice).

Join us for a sunny brunch with food and conversation, plus a few prizes for the best/most memorable/creative white attire.

All are welcome. This event will be held outdoors on the terrace overlooking the golf course.

Please be sure to dress appropriately for the weather. (If it is raining, the event will be moved indoors)

Brunch will run from 11:30AM- approximately 1:30PM. Afterwards, those interested may take a stroll through lovely Silver Lake Park enjoying the enchanting views of lush surroundings and the idyllic sparkling lake.

This will be a pay as you go, individual expense, cash preferred event.

Join us for the Social Justice Book Club this Sunday "Strange People on the Hill" by Michael Edison Sunday 7/19/26 11:00am

The Social Justice Committee will be hosting a book club for those who have read, or would like to hear about, "Strange People on the Hill" by Michael Edison.

Weather permitting, we hope to have our book discussion in the Memorial Garden.

Strange People on the Hill is "a gripping story that reveals what happened to a small American town when an influential white nationalist group relocated its headquarters there, illustrating how radical changes in American politics impact our psyches and divide our communities.
