What does it mean to meet the moment as our country turns 250 years old?

Let's gather in song, meditation and loving, defiant spirit to discern who we are called to be in this tumultuous year. Let's unite in worship and fellowship, and meet the moment - in community - together!

Pride is a time of celebration for the rights, equality and culture of the LGBTQ community. Pride is also a noun and a verb that expresses emotion and comes with a lot of assumptions about how it should be understood.

Using the gift of a story about Toad and Frog, left to us by Arnold Lobel, we will discuss what it means to be proud and how that can look different to many people. And why a community of people should need to claim the right to be Proud, as others once had to claim the right to be Beautiful.

In last Sunday's service, UCSI Member Laura Martocci shared her insights into caring and compassion. Compassion is about the availability to fully see and listen to others. Caretaking is putting that into action.

In last Sunday's service, UCSI Member Risa Anderson spoke about “The Te of Piglet" inspired by Benjamin Hoff's book of the same name. The character of Piglet helps us understand the idea of power, strength, and purpose that lies within each of us.

What do we do when we begin to identify our power/strength? What responsibilities do we have to ourselves and our community?

In his follow up book to the Tao of Pooh, Benjamin Hoff continues his exploration of Taoism by focusing on the concept of Te. He uses the character of Piglet to help us understand the idea of power, strength, and purpose that lies within each of us.

What do we do when we begin to identify our power/strength? What responsibilities do we have to ourselves and our community?

Risa is a member of UCSI and on the Arts Committee. She has been an adjunct philosophy teacher for over 30 years and loves to ponder the questions with an open heart. She has also been a participant in a number of theater groups for even longer as an actor, director, lighting designer and stage manager throughout the midwest and in NYC.

Unitarian Church of Staten Island
Sunday, May 10, 26, 2026 • 10:50am

In-person Service with Virtual Option

This Mother's Day, we consider immigrant families, faith journeys, and our own tradition. Let's consider the many spiritualities honored in the flags of our sanctuary, and the people who nurture and make those traditions real.

We'll honor Mother's Day - and the spiritual quests of so many mothers in our city and congregation.
