November 14th at 5pm: The concert seeks to answer questions like: What music most vividly captures the American persona? What music sets toes to tapping, brings unfettered joy or has the burn and heartache of blues or the exultation of gospel? What music speaks with a genuine American and often colloquial voice and radically departs from European norms? The program is built on four pillars: Copland, Gershwin, Bernstein and Barber with tributes to our early musical forebears, to Duke Ellington, to the Spiritual, Blues, Jazz and Gospel traditions and with room for the younger talents – Eric Whitacre and Caroline Shaw. Special guests will include blues singer Danny Kean, jazz/blues guitarist Mike Hogan, and the talented and versatile Dorian Lake. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the door.

Those of us who are left behind, those of us who are alive and well, those of us who still believe in the life, teaching, death, and resurrection of Jesus, those of us who know deep in our hearts and minds and souls that God envisions a kingdom for humanity where all can thrive, where all can manifest righteousness, and where justice rolls down like waters, we, we must “behold and tend the garden.” That is the calling. To behold God’s garden and tend it. Because God’s garden is magnificent, fabulous, stupendous.

SPECIAL REFORMATION-THEMED ADULT FORUM
Sunday, October 18th, noon-1:30pm

Participate in a table reading of a HILARIOUSLY TERRIBLE anti-Reformation play by a Catholic adversary of Martin Luther, written in German in 1538 and translated into English by Pr. Stephanie. The cast includes Luther's main fellow reformers and their wives (very unusual) and focuses on the scandalous aspects of the Reformation, like allowing priests to marry. If you know in advance you would like to participate, let Pr. Stephanie know so she can cast you and give you a copy of the play in case you want to read through it in advance. Kaffee and Kuchen provided!
