Penn State's first Sikh Organization

WHO WE ARE
Sikhism, the fifth largest in the world, is a monotheistic religion that preaches a message of devotion and remembrance of God at all times, truthful living, self-less service, and equality of humankind. OUR MISSION
The Sikh Student Association at Penn State University has a mission to encourage an on-campus community that spreads awareness of the S

ikh religion and inspires others to engage in community service. We aim to achieve our goals through religious, cultural, and social activities open to the entire Penn State community. The SSA at PSU also strives to achieve its mission by living closely to the principles of Sikhism. These principles are those of Seva, or selfless service, Sangat, or community and spiritual support, and Simran, or remembrance of God at all times. These three principles and ideals of Sikhism are incorporated throughout the SSA endeavors. EVENTS
We participate in a variety of events such as:

Setup a table in the HUB at Penn State monthly distributing "Who are Sikhs?" literature, speaking to students with questions about us, and tying dastaars (turbans) on students who wish to have a turban tied on them. Holding a 'langar' - an evening of free Indian vegetarian food served in the traditional Sikh way, raising money for the underprivileged, THON (Kids with cancer), and the Sikh Coalition. In April we hold a Vaisakhi keertan divan to commemorate the birth of the khalsa. We are in the process of organizing more discussions, and seminars on Sikhi to raise Sikh awareness on campus. MEETINGS
