Tonight, at Secret Church, we were part of a defining moment—joining 50,000 believers worldwide who joined together in incredible Scripture study of the life of Elijah, desperate prayer for the persecuted church, and gave generously to see Jesus made known in the hardest-to-reach places on earth. We will never forget this night.

This Lent, we are going on a “bus tour” through Israel and Scripture—and you’re invited to come along.

Each Sunday we’ll “stop” at a different place in Scripture—Caesarea Philippi, the Mount of Transfiguration, the Jordan River, the wilderness, the upper room, and Jerusalem—as we journey with Jesus toward the cross and Easter.

Lent isn’t just about giving something up; it’s a personal pilgrimage of the soul. Together, we’ll move from simply knowing about Jesus to really knowing Him—tasting and seeing that He is good, and learning what it means to be transformed by His Spirit, not just “improved” by our own effort.

Join us this Sunday as we ask Jesus to open our eyes to His glory in a fresh way.

SUNDAY SERMON RECAP: What if the things we're waiting for aren't just about getting what we want, but about encountering who we need?

This Advent season reminds us that hope isn't just wishful thinking or empty optimism. Hope is a person, and His name is Jesus.

Zechariah and Elizabeth waited faithfully for years, even when their prayers seemed unanswered. They kept showing up. They kept worshiping. And in their place of unmet longing, they encountered God in a way they never expected.

The truth is, waiting refines us. It shifts our focus from the gift to the Giver. It transforms our hearts from demanding guarantees to simply trusting God.

And here's what's beautiful: even when our answered prayers look different than we imagined, even when the story doesn't unfold the way we hoped, God is still weaving our longings into His grand narrative of redemption.

This Christmas, we celebrate that we're not alone in a cold, indifferent universe. We're caught up in a story that began with God, brings redemption through Jesus, and ends in His life with us.

Hope has come. Hope is here. Hope is Jesus.

"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." Romans 15:13

Merry Christmas from Foundation Church!

We want to invite you to join us for the Advent season. Advent comes from the Latin word adventus, meaning “arrival” or “coming”. It marks a deeply significant season in the Christian calendar. Spanning the four weeks leading up to Christmas, it is a time of preparation and anticipation, inviting us to reflect on the dual meaning of Christ’s coming: His humble birth in Bethlehem and one day, His promised return as eternal King and righteous Judge.

At its heart, Advent is a season of great hope. Each week of Advent represents a key theme - hope, peace, joy and love - serving as weekly reminders of God’s promises. Advent ultimately leads to the celebration of Christmas, marked by our Candlelight Christmas Eve Service, when God’s promise is fulfilled in the birth of Jesus. This journey is a sacred pause in the rhythm of life that draws us closer to the mystery of God’s love for each of us.

Advent Calendar 2025:

Kids Christmas Play - Wednesday Dec. 17th @ 6:30pm

Being part of the church isn't about finding the perfect place that does the service just how you like it. It's about discovering why God really made you and becoming a functioning part of something greater than yourself.

The gospel isn't just right belief. It's a call to action, to personal holiness, to serving others. When Jesus said "follow me," He didn't invite us to a ceremony or classroom, but to a cross-shaped way of life.

Here's what it means to truly be part of God's church: • Be a functioning part, not a spectator • Pursue unity over personal preferences • Live and give generously because it's a privilege • Pray for your church family and others • Treasure your local church community as a gift from God

In 1 Corinthians 12, Paul talks about the illustration that the eye needs to be the eye. The hand needs to be the hand. We're not whole without you actively participating. This isn't about obligation. It's about recognizing that God has given you unique gifts to serve His church and your neighbor.

When we see serving in the church as a natural outflow of the joy of our salvation, we become more whole. Because this is what God designed us for.

Being in the body of Christ isn't an arrival point. It's a starting line. The gospel calls us to more.

What is God calling you to do in His church today?

We've all been there - working hard, trying our best, and coming up empty. That's exactly where Simon Peter found himself after fishing all night with nothing to show for it. Then Jesus shows up and asks him to do something that makes absolutely no sense: throw the nets back in.

Simon's response is so relatable: "We've worked hard all night and haven't caught anything." But then he adds something that changes everything: "But because you say so, I will."

Here's the truth we need to wrestle with: Faith is spelled R-I-S-K. It's not about having it all figured out or feeling completely confident. It's about taking one small, unreasonable step to trust Jesus anyway.

C.S. Lewis put it perfectly - Jesus was either a lunatic, a liar, or Lord. There's no middle ground where He's just a "good teacher." We have to decide.

And here's what blows my mind: Simon Peter didn't have mountain-moving faith in that moment. He probably had very little faith at all. But he took the risk anyway. And the nets filled with so many fish they almost sank two boats.

That one small step of faith? Months later, it led to Peter walking on water toward Jesus. Not because it made sense, but because Jesus said "come" and Peter wanted to get to Him.

So what is Jesus asking you to risk today? Maybe it's praying for someone again. Maybe it's trusting Him with your finances. Maybe it's telling a friend what God has done for you. Whatever it is, it probably won't feel reasonable.

But what if you risked it? What if you just threw the net in one more time? Because He says so.

Reflections from the Wake-Up Call on Matthew 4 this morning...

Matthew 4:1–4 NIV

"Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’"

So Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil . . . Jesus is hardly dried off from his baptism when the Holy Spirit leads him into the wilderness. Yes, the Holy Spirit will lead us, at times, into hard places where hard things happen, but that doesn’t mean he causes bad things to happen. Someone else does that job (a.k.a. the devil).

After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry . . . This wilderness reminds us of that earlier wilderness we know as Exodus. Jesus is getting right what they got wrong. Like Moses, he fasts for forty days and nights—one day for every year in that wasteland. Life often offers full circle moments. Pay attention to them. God often moves there.

The tempter came to him and said, . . . We have an enemy. It is rarely if ever another person. It is always Satan, a.k.a. the devil. He will come in for attack when you are at your lowest, weakest, tiredest, most vulnerable state. He knows how to get you. Jesus knows better how to keep you. See also 1 John 4:4.

“If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” Satan will always try to connect your worth to your performance. His go-to tactic: attacking and undermining your God-given identity. His favorite lie: You are what you do. Receive the truth. Renounce the lies.

Jesus answered, “It is written: . . . Every Sunday I ask the children in my church this question: “How do you punch the devil?” They reply (with volume up): “By saying God’s Word!” The adults are starting to join in. Too often spiritual warfare is attempted by a spirituality of earnest sincerity. It’s taking a knife to a gunfight. Spiritual warfare must be wielded by the Word of God spoken in the power of the Spirit of God—Don’t believe me? See what was written: “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.”

Last question: What was the last word that came from the mouth of God before Jesus was led into the wilderness? Hint: It was in yesterday’s text.

And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”

Nope, Jesus didn’t tell a stone to become bread. In the midst of fasting, he feasted on the bread of his belovedness—the Word of God in the wilderness.

To follow Jesus is to be baptized in his baptism and to live on every word that comes from the mouth of God—starting with the bread of our belovedness.
