Labor Day reminds us that good things do not simply happen.

Meals are prepared.
Beds are made.
Grounds are cared for.
Repairs are completed.
Children are welcomed.
Guests are greeted.
Dishes are washed.
Programs are planned.
Spaces are cleaned, reset, and made ready again.

So much of hospitality is built through work that happens quietly, faithfully, and often behind the scenes.

Today, we give thanks for the people whose hands and hearts make places of welcome possible — at Montgomery and throughout our communities.

May we notice the work around us.
May we honor the people doing it.
And may our own work, whatever it is, become one more way we care for our neighbors.

Today is the International Day of Charity.

Charity can look like a donation. But it can also look like a meal shared, a door held open, a ride offered, a child included, a lonely person noticed, a burden carried, or a welcome extended without being earned.

At Montgomery, we talk a lot about hospitality — making room for people, caring for our neighbors, and creating spaces where others know they belong.

So we’re inviting our community to practice charity outwardly.

Look for one person who could use a little more welcome.
One need you can quietly meet.
One neighbor you can encourage.

Earlier this year, you helped Montgomery Center meet a $50,000 matching gift challenge. Because of that momentum, a new $10,000 matching challenge was issued.

Because sometimes a conversation happens on a dock that never would have happened across a desk.

Sometimes a child discovers courage halfway up a climbing wall.

Sometimes strangers become friends around a table.

Sometimes worship feels different beneath a canopy of trees.

And sometimes getting away from our normal routines creates just enough space to hear what God has been saying all along.

That’s the gift of places like Montgomery.

Some days God sends you on unexpected journeys. Sunday was one of those days for our director, with a very last minute change of plans. It was a joy to worship with the faithful at Williston Presbyterian. Thank you for your warm welcome, your prayers, and your support. God knew exactly what I needed in the music and words spoken in worship that day.🙏🙌

Bonus: the journey took me on my favorite road in all of North Florida, CR 320, passing the historic Cracker Houses of Shiloh. Grateful for God's little blessings.🥰
