When people are difficult, our first instinct is to withdraw. We think that if they don't appreciate us, they don't deserve our time or our kindness. But if we only serve when it's earned, we aren't actually serving; we're just bartering.
Real impact happens when we realize that our mission is tied to our character, not our critics. Jesus didn't wait for a thank you before he sacrificed everything. He acted out of a deep sense of purpose that wasn't dependent on the crowd's approval. When we decouple our actions from other people's reactions, we find a new kind of freedom. We can be consistent, kind, and helpful regardless of the chaos around us.
Don't let a bad experience talk you out of your calling. Stay the course and keep doing good, because the world needs people who are moved by grace rather than by spite.
