Ministry isn't limited to what happens behind a microphone.

Making a meal is ministry.

Giving someone a ride is ministry.

Sitting with someone who is grieving is ministry.

Fixing something for a neighbor is ministry.

Listening without trying to fix everything is ministry.

Don't underestimate what God can do with what you already have.

We like being the helper.

We aren't always comfortable being the helped.

But needing one another isn't a failure. It's part of how God designed the Body of Christ.

Sometimes faith looks like saying, “I can help.”

Sometimes it looks like having the courage to say, “I need help.”

Every person in the church has something to offer.

Every person in the church also has something they need.

Healthy community begins when we're willing to admit both.

What has God placed in your hands to share?

And where do you need someone else's hands?

If everybody offers help but nobody is willing to ask for it, we’re still practicing individualism. We’ve just made it look generous.

Christian community means learning to say both:

“Here’s something I have.”

And:

“Here’s something I need.”

What if the resources needed to meet a need are already among us?

A truck. A meal. An afternoon. A skill. A ride. A listening ear. A little extra money.

Maybe the question isn’t, “Do we have enough?”

Maybe it’s, “What has God already placed among us?”

Church is more than people worshiping in the same room.

Who knows what you’re celebrating?

Who knows what you’re worried about?

Who knows when you’re having a hard week?

Community begins when we grab a corner of one another’s lives.

When four people carry a couch, the couch doesn’t get lighter.

The weight gets shared.

Sometimes God answers “Lord, help me” by sending someone who says, “Which end should I grab?”

Christian community requires two kinds of courage:

“I can help.”

And:

“I need help.”

Sometimes the second one is harder.
