56ers met Sunday, April 12th & participated in Project Sunshine project of making & decorating cards for children and adults in long term care facilities. They also enjoyed making individual cream pies for our snack & learning from the bible in John 20:11-18. The main idea during the lesson time was Jesus is alive! This is the big event! After Jesus was mocked, tortured, crucified, and buried, he became victorious over death and will never die again. The Christian year climaxes with the resurrection because this is the good news of the gospel. New life is possible! Death does not have the final word! In this passage, John described the first moments of discovery when Mary Magdalene visited the tomb of Jesus, finding it empty. Mary Magdalene was a devout follower of Jesus after he healed her of demons. When she saw the empty tomb, she wept. She did not know what had happened to Jesus’ body. In the presence of angels and the risen Christ, she was still confused. But finally, she recognized Jesus when he said her name, “Mary.” Jesus sent Mary to spread the word of his resurrection. She came to care for his body, but she found herself in the middle of the biggest news story in history; she is the apostle to the apostles. Jesus was alive and everyone must know!

56ers met on January 18th and we had a great time learning from God’s word. It was fun to be back together after Christmas break.
Our 1/18 lesson was on the details from Matthew 21:1-11. When Jesus entered Jerusalem and how some people were excited to worship him. Others did not know who he was. The people were expecting a messiah who would ride in on a great steed and radically overthrow the government. Instead, Jesus rode into the city on a humble donkey’s back.
We were able to identify with being misunderstood. Jesus was supposed to be one thing, but people were disappointed in who he truly was. Jesus spent the last week of his life being ostracized, ridiculed, questioned, and misunderstood even though there was nothing wrong with him.
Our 56ers have a strong sense of justice & fairness. This is a great opportunity for families to discuss what it may have been like in Jerusalem during that triumphal entry. What are some injustices today that Jesus would want to address? Would he have anything to say about the way we do things?
56ers will meet Sunday, February 1st & 15th. Be on the look out for information for the special things we have planned for the month of February.

This Sunday 1/18! We are so excited to see you! Invite a friend! All 5th & 6th grade students are welcome.
