🚨 THIS SUNDAY: 11AM 🚨
I’M NOT OKAY — For Those About to Break
Isaiah 40:28

Some people walk into church smiling while silently falling apart.
Behind the carefully curated mask may be grief, anxiety, exhaustion, family conflict, financial pressure, bad news from the doctor, betrayal, abuse, or a burden no one else can see.

But Isaiah 40 gives a word of hope for weary people:
When you feel like everything is about to end, you can rest upon the God who has no beginning and no end.
When you feel like you have run out of strength, you can run to the One whose power knows no bounds.
When you are so tired you cannot take another step, you can rest in the One who never wearies and never faints.
This Sunday is for the tired.
For the overwhelmed.
For the ones holding it together on the outside but breaking on the inside.
The weary need more than inspiration.
The weary need a Savior.

Come worship with us this Sunday. Bring someone who needs to be reminded that God sees, God knows, God sustains, and Christ saves.

📖 “Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God…” — Isaiah 40:28

You are not alone.
There is hope in Christ.

Second installment of worship philosophy.

4) Worship is Christ-exalting: Jesus is the focus

We gather in the name of Jesus and for the honor of Jesus. He is the head of the church, the mediator of the new covenant, and the centerpiece of our message (Col. 1:18; Heb. 8:6; 1 Cor. 2:2). In corporate worship we proclaim the greatness of Christ—His incarnation, cross, resurrection, reign, and return (Phil. 2:5–11; 1 Cor. 15:3–4).

Aim: That Christ would be treasured above all (Phil. 3:8).

5) Worship is Spirit-empowered: dependence, not mere mechanics

True worship is not produced by atmosphere or talent. It is the work of the Holy Spirit, applying the Word to the heart and lifting our affections to Christ (John 16:13–14; 1 Cor. 2:12–14). We plan carefully, but we worship dependently—asking God to do what only He can do: convict, comfort, save, sanctify, and unify (Eph. 5:18–20; Zech. 4:6).

Posture: Prayerful humility, not self-confidence.

6) Worship is congregational: the church participates, not spectates

The gathered church is the primary “choir.” Worship is more than music/singing, but it includes worship/singing. Corporate worship is the people of God speaking and singing truth to one another and to the Lord (Eph. 5:19; Col. 3:16). While leaders serve by guiding, the congregation worships by active engagement—singing, praying, listening, confessing, giving, and responding in obedience (Heb. 10:24–25).

Guiding principle: We don’t watch worship; we worship.

Here's the first of a few posts considering the practice of worship at Emmanuel Baptist:

1) Worship is God-centered: for His glory, by His design
Worship begins with God, not us. We gather because He is worthy, and our aim is His glory—not entertainment, preference, or performance. God seeks worshipers who worship “in spirit and truth” (John 4:23–24). Therefore, our worship is shaped by what God has revealed about Himself and what He commands in His Word (Deut. 12:32; Col. 3:16–17).

Big idea: The question is not “What do we like?” but “What honors the Lord?”

2) Worship is gospel-shaped: we respond to grace
Christian worship is a response to the grace/mercy of God in Jesus Christ. We come as sinners saved by grace, offering our whole selves to God as “living sacrifices” (Rom. 12:1–2). We gather with confidence not because we have cleaned ourselves up, but because Christ has made us clean (Heb. 10:19–22).

In practice: Our services regularly include confession, assurance, thanksgiving, and renewed obedience because the gospel is the rhythm of the Christian life (1 John 1:8–9; Titus 2:11–14).

3) Worship is Word-saturated: Scripture governs everything we do

God’s Word is the authority for faith and practice (2 Tim. 3:16–17). Therefore, Scripture is not an accessory in worship; it is central. We give ourselves to the public reading of Scripture and to the preaching and teaching of God’s Word (1 Tim. 4:13; Neh. 8:8). Preaching is not motivational speaking—it is proclaiming Christ from all the Scriptures so God’s people are fed, corrected, encouraged, and equipped (2 Tim. 4:1–2; Luke 24:27).

Our conviction: We stand on Scripture as our sole source for faith and practice.
