Day 5: Little Things With Great Love
Reading: Matthew 25:34-40

Devotional:

Jesus makes a startling claim in this passage: when you gave water to the thirsty, welcomed the stranger, or visited the sick, you were doing it to him. The kingdom of God is not built exclusively through grand gestures and sweeping movements. It is built one cup of water at a time, one held hand at a time, one moment of shade at a time. As Marlena Graves writes, "Let's be careful of doing mighty things for God when God merely asks us to do little things with great love." You do not need to be a great oak to matter. A simple rotem bush providing shade for one weary soul in the desert is exactly what the King requires.

Reflection Question: What small, faithful act of love is God asking you to offer to someone in your life this week?

Practical Application: Choose one specific, simple act of service or encouragement to offer someone this week. Do not wait until it feels significant enough. Do the little thing with great love, and trust that the King of righteousness will use it for his kingdom purposes.

Devotional:

Hagar was alone, desperate, and forgotten by everyone who should have cared for her. But God found her in the wilderness and spoke her name. She responded with one of the most profound names ever given to God: El Roi, the God who sees me. In your most isolated and painful moments, when it feels as though the desert has swallowed you whole and no one notices, God sees you. He knows your name. He hears your cry. The Lord is in this place, even when you cannot feel him. You are not forsaken. Not for a single minute have you been outside the sight of a God who loves you completely.

Reflection Question: Have you ever felt unseen or forgotten by God? How does the truth that God sees you change the way you face that season?

Practical Application: Spend five minutes in silence today. No requests, no agenda. Simply sit before God and allow the truth that he sees you, knows you, and has not forsaken you to settle deeply into your heart.

What does it look like to live as kingdom people in a world that leaves so many parched, beaten down, and worn out? This Sunday's message from Isaiah 32:1-8 painted a vivid picture of a king who reigns in righteousness, bringing shade, shelter, and living water to those in the desert of life. That king is Jesus.

We were challenged to ask ourselves: are we being that shade tree, that shelter, that cup of water for the people around us? Sometimes God does not ask us to do mighty things. He simply asks us to do small things with great love. Even a bush in the desert is enough shade for one weary traveler.

If you are thirsty, worn out, or just need someone to hold your hand through a hard season, there is a place for you here. Come find rest, hope, and the living water only Jesus can provide.

It is the declaration that love wins, that grace is greater, and that no desert is permanent.

Day 5: The King Before the Commission
Reading: 1 Corinthians 9:19-27 — Paul describes running with purpose, disciplining himself, and doing everything possible to share the gospel with all kinds of people.

Devotional: Paul's passion for reaching people did not come from a strategy. It came from a deep, daily encounter with the king he served. He ran with purpose because he knew what the prize was. There is so little enthusiasm for kingdom work because there is so little enthusiasm for the king himself. The sent life flows from a worshipping life. When we breathe in the goodness and holiness of God — when we stand in awe of what he has done — we cannot help but want others to know the source of what we have found. Mission begins on your knees, not on your feet.

Reflection Question: How much of your daily life is shaped by a genuine, unhurried encounter with God himself?

Practical Application: Set aside fifteen minutes today with no agenda other than to be still before God. No requests. No lists. Simply acknowledge who he is and let that reality settle into you before the week carries you forward.

Day 4: Sent Through Ordinary Things
Reading: Mark 5:25-34 — A woman suffering for twelve years reaches out to touch the hem of Jesus' garment and is immediately healed and restored.

Devotional: Jesus was on his way somewhere else entirely when this woman reached out. He was headed to heal a synagogue leader's daughter. His schedule was full. Yet he stopped. He felt power go out from him and he turned around. He did not let urgency override presence. When she fell before him trembling, he called her daughter. He restored not just her body but her dignity. This is the texture of the sent life — it is interrupted, inconvenient, and deeply human. The people God sends us to rarely show up at convenient moments. Being sent means being interruptible.

Reflection Question: When was the last time you allowed a divine interruption to redirect your plans toward someone in need?

Practical Application: The next time your routine is disrupted by another person's need, pause before reacting with frustration. Ask God quietly in that moment whether this interruption is actually an appointment.

Day 3: A Light So Lovely
Reading: 1 Peter 3:13-16 — Believers are encouraged to honor Christ as Lord and always be prepared to give a reason for the hope they carry.

Devotional: Peter's instruction assumes something striking — that people will actually ask about the hope you carry. That only happens when the hope you carry looks different from everything the world is reaching for. If we hope in the same things everyone else hopes in, no one will think to ask. But when we face difficulty with steadiness, when we treat people with dignity in a world of transactions, when we listen in a culture of noise, something becomes visible. Madeleine L'Engle captured it well — we draw people toward Christ by showing them a light so lovely they want to know its source.

Reflection Question: Does the way you live your daily life prompt anyone to ask about what you believe or why you have hope?

Practical Application: Examine one area of your life — your workplace, your neighborhood, your family — and ask honestly whether your conduct there reflects a different kind of hope.
