You Don't Have To Clean Yourself Up First
Jesus says there's another way, and it's the narrow way. It's hard. But hard leads to life. And just because something is hard, or just because we don't like it, that doesn't make it wrong.
Sometimes when we hear the word hard, we think miserable. That's not what it means. The narrow road is hard because it requires surrender.
Jesus said, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow me."
So that goes against our nature, our culture, and what the world says. The world says put yourself first, follow your desires, do what makes you happy. And Jesus says deny yourself, pick up your cross, and follow Him.
Picture the paths of Israel that the people would have known: narrow, rocky, and challenging. In some places they'd have to walk single file.
There's not enough room on that road for two people, just like there's not enough room spiritually for your will and God's will. So something has to die on this path: your pride, your hate, your unforgiveness, your selfishness, and your sin. But Jesus never asks you to lose your life without replacing it with something better.
And here's what matters: you don't clean yourself up first, then come to Jesus. The gate comes first, then the road. Grace first, transformation second. You enter by faith, then you learn obedience.
So you enter through Jesus, and He changes you while you walk down the road. The narrow road isn't about adding religion to your life; it's about real heart transformation. Second Corinthians 5:17 says, "If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation."
