Notice to the person in the white truck filling up a large water container last night from the pump and well owned by the cemetery, this is a privately owned and maintained property and well. It is not for the use of anyone but the patrons of the cemetery or the maintenance crew. Most importantly, for your own safety, this water is not potable so please do not use for drinking water.

Happy Spring 2024? That last snowfall did quite a bit of damage to the shrubs in the cemetery. And once again someone has driven into the cemetery using the one gate that was not closed off and created such ruts in the roads we are going to have to hire someone to take them out. All of this will have to be funded using the perpetual care fund which unfortunately is not keeping up with the minimal maintenance of just mowing.

We are finally open for 2023 despite some challenges. . First the mower broke and for the little bit of grass left after the last few years of drought, soil tests that show the soil needs organic matter ,getting too much rain this spring and vehicles driving on it and getting stuck leaving ruts etc. The water is on after discovering the pump house lock was broken off by someone looking for something inside?
The yearly annual meeting was held at town hall June 1st where elections for the board were held and announcements were made about the landscaping situation, adjustments that are needed to the design of the cremains garden, and condition of roadways were discussed. Some of the "public works" projects to improve the appearance of the cemetery will be on hold for a bit until the financial investment outlook gets back to where it was. If you have questions, suggestions, want to join our board, buy a lot or whatever our Superintendent Mike Bendzela can be contacted at 207-642 -2908. Thank you.

View of the burying grounds of our cemetery looking toward Cape and Dow Road. We have closed the cemetery till May to prevent rutting of roads and grounds. When we are open again, please stay on the roadways and not off into the back burial area where the (4) new trees are. Please don't assume that area is not someone's resting place because there is not a marker.

Just a reminder to folks that copies of our bylaws are available at the Mailbox next to Memorial Park at the cemetery. (if someone took the last one more copies will be coming soon).
To highlight one for those who are burying cremains here is the bylaw that addresses the containers. The purpose of having a non corrosive container is so that it will not break down or compost allowing the surrounding soil to sink into the void and form a depression.

ARTICLE 8
Each lot may have two remains providing one is a cremation. Cremains may not be interred unless they are contained in a noncorrosive, solid container. All caskets are to be placed in a concrete or other approved vault with a one piece cover. No two-piece covers are allowed on vaults. No remains shall be buried in Dow Corner Cemetery without the approval/supervision of the Superintendent or his Assistant. No animals shall be buried in the Cemetery.

Here is a small map showing the plan of our cemetery. Section A and B are the oldest sections and are up front near Cape Road. Our newest Section is C which is on the lower side of Memorial Park. Our future expansion will be in the vacant grassy area next to Section C . Please don't Drive on the back part of Section C or on Section D. We sadly must remind folks NOT to DUMP their refuse in our cemetery.

Excuse our appearance but with the drought and the lack of organic matter in the soil for Section C, the grounds are not looking good. Our Superintendent Mike is going to suspend mowing some areas for a while as it just creates dust clouds. Hoping for some rain to dampen that down a bit. July 2022

Please note: after the first snow fall, the cemetery will be closed for the season. A barrier will be erected to prohibit traffic on the roadways until May. The superintendent will keep a parking area plowed out near the entrance to allow patrons to park and walk in. People may walk in and out of the cemetery all season but no traffic permitted until the roads are dry.
