Stamford Church of Christ

Stamford Church of Christ The Stamford Church of Christ is a group of people dedicated to seeking God, caring for one another, and blessing our world. We respect scholarship.

We are a multi-ethnic church, gender inclusive, open and affirming of LGBTQ persons, and egalitarian in our leadership. Being a Church of Christ says a lot. It means that we do our very best to be the church here and now that Christ would want us to be. As heirs to a nineteenth-century back-to-Scripture movement we structure as little as possible. We keep our worship basic, warm and personal and o

ur doctrine simple. We do, however, seek to make sense of things. We study Scripture in the light of its original intent and historical context. And as a result, our congregation is fully gender-egalitarian. All things considered, our church is a place where we can feel completely at home, a place where we can unwind and express ourselves freely, and leave rejuvenated and restored. Beyond that we don't easily fit categories. Please come and visit with us. You'll find a lot of life and vitality, and depth and emotion, and grace and humanity.

This past Sunday, our SCC children hosted our annual lemonade stand. This is such a special tradition for our church family. We watch our kids practice generosity, hospitality, and learn that church doesn’t end at the closing prayer but spills out into the parking lot with pitchers of lemonade. Thank you to Rosemary (whose coordination makes this happen year after year), and to all our kids. Your energy and kindness remind us what joy looks like!

On Sunday, we celebrated the installation of Charles Rix as our newest elder!

Charles’ words to us were both encouraging and deeply felt. It was a joy to witness the congregation affirm him in this calling, and a reminder of God’s faithfulness that has shaped us for 60 years and counting. Moments like these remind us what it means to be the church together as we affirm one another’s gifts, celebrate faithfulness, and gather around a table in gratitude (with cake!). So much joy, indeed. Thanks to everyone for participating in our special dedication during the worship service and the lovely reception that followed.

Continue to pray for Charles, Debbie, Guy, and Scott. We are so grateful for our elders who show us what it means to lead, to serve, to discern, and to faithfully follow the path that God would have for our SCC family.

Here is a little joy for your Tuesday! On Sunday, our kids created art inspired by the prompt: “What does it look like to be with God?” Thank you to Emma, Ayden, Camila, and Mia for sharing your beautiful work with us! We are so grateful for the ways our kids know God, and for how they continually teach us who God is.

60 YEARS OF GOD’S FAITHFULNESS — WE NEED YOUR VOICE!

Our 60th anniversary is just 6 weeks away, and we are creating something special: “Sixty Years, Sixty Stories,” a video project celebrating six decades of God’s goodness through this church family.

Here’s how you can be part of it: Record a short video (1 min or less) where you share a memory, a story, or what this church has meant to you. Whether you are near or far, past or present, every voice matters. All ages welcome! Upload them at our church website. Don’t wait because the deadline is August 7!

We can’t wait to celebrate 60 years of faithfulness through YOUR story!
