After nearly a decade of faithful ministry at St. John's Lutheran Church as Cantor and Ministry Associate, Nathan Lively-Greyling has accepted a call to serve as Director of Music and Organist at Christ Church in Bronxville, New York, beginning August 1.
Since arriving at St. John's, Nathan has helped shape and expand the congregation's music ministry and its worship life.
Nathan has led the congregation through countless liturgies, concerts, special services, Holy Weeks, and Christmas celebrations. The choir has traveled to St. Albans Cathedral in England, St. Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin, and Bruton Parish Church in Williamsburg, and has performed Handel’s Messiah at St. Mark’s in Mt. Kisco, representing St. John's with distinction.
During the pandemic's challenges, Nathan helped guide the congregation through new forms of worship and music-making, ensuring that the church's song continued even in difficult times. He also helped lead the congregation through a pastoral transition and joyfully welcomed Pastor Martha and her family into the life of St. John's.
Nathan and his husband, Marnus, were married at St. John's, and the congregation has been an important spiritual home for both of them. Although Nathan will conclude his ministry at St. John's at the end of July, Nathan and Marnus will remain in Stamford, and the friendships and relationships formed over the years will endure.
Nathan's final Sunday as Cantor will be on July 26.
While we will miss Nathan's leadership, musicianship, and friendship, we give thanks to God for his ministry among us and wish him every blessing in this new chapter of his vocation.
Please keep Nathan, Marnus, Christ Church Bronxville, and St. John's in your prayers during this period of transition.
