St. Francis Episcopal Church, Stamford, 2810 Long Ridge Road.

Pets of all shapes and sizes — furry, feathered and even stuffed — are welcome at the Blessing of the Animals at St. Francis Episcopal Church. Or bring a photo or memento of a pet that has passed or doesn't travel well.
Every animal will be blessed during the service. All animals must be leashed or in carriers. All are welcome. Pets, and their owners, do not have to be members at St. Francis to take part in the service.

Our rector's reflection on the passing of Wendell Berry (1934-2026) 🌍:

Dear Beloved of St. Francis in the woods,

Another great light has gone out. This week, the world lost Wendell Berry — a poet, farmer, pacifist, environmental activist, and prophet. Berry, who viewed the earth as a holy gift that requires humility, care, and love, spent a lifetime writing psalm-like poetry that invites us back to mindfulness and attention. As someone whose first ministry job involved planting and managing a farm in northwest Connecticut, I have always loved how Berry offered his wisdom the way the land offers a harvest 👨🏽‍🌾🌽🌾🌾🌾🌾 — slowly, patiently, to those willing to wait for it. For your prayer life this week, I offer Berry's "The Peace of Wild Things," a small poem that carries big mercy.

When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

Join St. Francis for Homecoming Sunday, as we say goodbye to summer and kickoff fall by celebrating our ministries and inviting children of all ages to bring their school backpacks to the 10 a.m. service to be blessed.
Students who bring their backpacks to church for a blessing will receive a St. Francis prayer tag to carry with them throughout the school year. It will be the first Sunday for the Choir at the 10 a.m. service and the start our autumn Godly Play program, followed by a special coffee hour. We look forward to seeing you as the fall season begins.
