Most people hear “food bank” and picture shelves of canned goods. But the reality is much bigger, and much more connected to the entire Fredericksburg region than many realize.

On the FXBG Neighbors Podcast, hosted by Dori Stewart, Dan Maher of the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank explains how the organization serves as a large-scale distribution hub supporting hunger relief efforts across Spotsylvania, Stafford, Caroline, King George, the City of Fredericksburg, and parts of Orange County.

Instead of operating like a single local pantry, the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank works behind the scenes to source, recover, store, and distribute food through hundreds of partner agencies and pantries throughout the region.

Dan shares how food moves from grocery store recovery programs and federal food partnerships into local communities, plus the enormous coordination required to keep that system functioning every day.

One of the biggest takeaways is that fighting hunger is about more than food alone. SNAP enrollment support, advocacy, transportation, infrastructure, and local partnerships all play a role in building a stronger and more resilient community support system.
