“The blood of the martyrs is the seed of the Church,"

The African martyrs add another page to the Church’s roll of honor – an occasion both of mourning and of joy. These African martyrs herald the dawn of a new age. If only the mind of man might be directed not toward persecutions and religious conflicts but toward a rebirth of Christianity and civ...

She brought us the Sacred heart of Jesus, despite what others thought.

Saint Margaret Mary

“I need nothing but God, and to lose myself in the heart of Jesus.”

Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque, like Pope Francis, spent her life reminding people of God’s Mercy. She will forever be associated with devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the symbol of Christ’s love. Many people follow her in prayer to the Sacred Heart on the first Friday of every month.

A Saint that chose a rough life.

Saint Bernard of Menthon.

“Bernard had the duties of caring for the poor and travelers. For their convenience and protection, Bernard founded a Canonry and Hospice at the highest point of the pass, 8,000 feet above sea level, in the year 1050. This site now bears his name”

St. Bernard of Menthon, also known as St. Bernard of Montjoux, was the founder of the famed Hospice, which served the travelers for nearly 1,000 years. He was also the founder of the Congregation of the Canons Regular, which has served it throughout that history. It is also the Hospice that gave r....

No, not that St. Augustine, the other St. Augustine, the one you never heard of, until today.

Saint Augustine of Canterbury

“Laboring patiently, Augustine of Canterbury wisely heeded the missionary principles—quite enlightened for the times—suggested by Pope Gregory: purify rather than destroy pagan temples and customs; let pagan rites and festivals be transformed into Christian feasts”

Saint Augustine of Canterbury, a monk, was the first bishop of Canterbury. While he only labored for another eight years after establishing the diocese, his influence lives on. Part of his success, limited though it was, was due to his compassionate approach to the local peoples.

St. Grinch?

Saint Philip

“Philip saw what appeared to be a globe of fire. It is said the fire entered his mouth, causing Philip to feel his heart dilate. Philip was filled with such paroxysms of divine love that caused him to scream out, "Enough, enough, Lord, I can bear no more." Philip then discovered a swelling over his heart, though it caused him no pain”

St. Philip Neri was a Christian missionary and founder of the Congregation of the Oratory, a community of Catholic priests and lay brothers. He was born in Florence on July 21, 1515 as one of four children to Francesco Neri. From a very young age, Philip was known for being cheerful and obedient. .....

Father of English History

Saint Bede Doctor of the Church

“Though his History is the greatest legacy Bede the Venerable has left us, his work in all the sciences, especially in Scripture, should not be overlooked”

Saint Bede the Venerable almost never left his monastery once he became a monk, but he influenced the entire Church of his day. One of the most well-rounded scholars, he wrote and taught in all areas of knowledge. Bede's writings were read in church even before his death.
