Mission Office - Archdiocese of St. Louis Supports the missionary work of the Catholic Church around the world The Mission Office aids the faithful of the Archdiocese of St. The Archdiocese of St.

Louis in their support of the missionary work of the Catholic Church around the world. One of the primary ways the Mission Office does this is through the support of the Pontifical Mission Societies. The Pontifical Mission Societies are a worldwide network at the service of the Holy Father to sustain the mission and the young Churches through prayer and charity. In his encyclical Redemptoris Missi

o, St. John Paul II says, “This must be our motto: All the Churches united for the conversion of the whole world” (84). The four Pontifical Mission Societies are: Society for the Propagation of the Faith, Missionary Childhood Association, St. Peter the Apostle, and Missionary Union of Priests and Religious. “The Societies bring to the Catholic world that spirit of universality and of service to the Church’s mission, without which authentic cooperation does not exist” (Redemptoris Missio 84). Day 3 of the Novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus:
06/05/2026

Day 3 of the Novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus:

Saint John Henry Newman took the episcopal motto Cor ad cor loquitur (“Heart speaks unto heart”), understanding that the Lord saves us by speaking to our hearts from his Sacred Heart. It was in the Holy Eucharist, the greatest form of praise to God, that Saint John Henry Newman cultivated his deepest encounter with the living heart of Jesus. Let us pray with Saint John Henry Newman so that we might hear the Sacred Heart speak to us when we praise and adore Jesus in the Eucharist.

When contemplating the Sacred Heart as the source of justice and love, we connect Christ’s love for us with our love for others. As Pope Francis said in Dilexit Nos, “Our best response to the love of Christ’s heart is to love our brothers and sisters. There is no greater way for us to return love for love” (no. 167). As we meditate on the love Christ has for us, let us pray this Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus for Love and Mercy.

Lord Jesus, You gave your life for us. Your Sacred Heart is ablaze with love. Your hand extends towards me, and towards all, offering love, mercy, and healing. Sacred Heart of Jesus may your love transform me. Burn away my hesitation that I may become your love and radiate your mercy. Amen.

On this date in 1953, the Daily World Missionaries were formed!

Following the Archbishop Ritter Worldmission Exhibition, Auxiliary Bishop Charles H. Helmsing held a meeting, wanting to create an opportunity for the laity to take an active part in the missionary work of the Church. Inspired by the Exhibition, as well as by the address from Fulton Sheen, a proposal was formed for the Daily World Missionaries.

We invite you to learn more, continue this missionary legacy, and join the Daily World Missionaries today!

Today, Pope Leo addressed the general assembly of the Pontifical Mission Societies gathered in Rome and even spoke about the upcoming beatification of Fulton Sheen!

"It is also providential that this year, on 24 September, in Saint Louis Missouri, a renowned National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in the United States of America, the Venerable Fulton J. Sheen, will be beatified. Archbishop Sheen was a light of faith, hope, and love that shone through the radio and television media for decades. I myself am a witness of his evangelization when I was growing up. His broadcasts touched millions with the hope of the Gospel and his initiatives and efforts resulted in enormous spiritual and material aid to the Churches in areas of first evangelization. May our new Blessed be an example for all of the National and Diocesan Directors of the Pontifical Mission Societies throughout the world."

"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." (Matthew 28:19)

Today, we celebrate the Feast of the Most Holy Trinity. The Church is missionary by her very nature because her entire mission flows from the love of the Father, the sending of the Son, and the breath of the Holy Spirit.

God is not isolation; God is a communion of love. The ultimate goal of all missionary work is to invite every person on earth into that divine family.

Today, let us pray for all missionaries who are currently bringing the light and love of the Trinity to the ends of the earth.
