Many congregations across America are concerned about shrinking membership and congregational survival. Often, it seems that programs and resources that address these issues are geared toward suburban church settings. LCMS Rural & Small Town Mission (RSTM) recognizes that while the work to which God has called congregations is the same, the context in which that work is carried out can be very dif

ferent—even in rural America. While there is no "one” program or resource that will provide guaranteed results, RSTM provides training and resources aimed at helping rural and small town congregations assess community needs and search for opportunities to engage their communities through acts of witness and mercy. This is the official page of The Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod - Rural & Small Town Mission. Please join the conversation but remember to ground comments in love for one another (John 15:12). Duplicate, irrelevant, inappropriate or offensive comments may be removed. The Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod, founded in 1847, is America's second-largest Lutheran denomination, with 2.3 million members in some 6,200 congregations across the United States. It is a mission-oriented, confessional Christian church adhering to the Scriptures and to the explication of God's Word as articulated in the Book of Concord of 1580. DISCLAIMER: We invite you to join in on the conversations found here and we ask that you ground your comments in love for one another as Christ instructs us in John 15-12: “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.’’

While we do not edit posts of others, we do reserve the right to remove duplicate, irrelevant, inappropriate or offensive comments. Please contact us if you have any questions. What is life? What is its purpose? If God created us for life, why does it feel like so much of our existence is all about death?
Humanity has been asking questions like these for ages – but it’s the Christian faith alone that has the answers.
In this short booklet, you’ll be carried through the real story of life – from creation and fall to redemption and new life in Christ. Dig in and see how what the culture calls ‘really living’ pales in comparison to true, real and abundant life found only in God, the author of life Himself.

Almighty and everlasting God, since You have established the whole Christian Church through the working of Your Holy Spirit, hear our prayers for the Kansas District LCMS. Mercifully grant that, by Your grace, they may act in accordance with Your will; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

A free Bible study on mercy, titled “Feed My Lambs,” is available from The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod for use in home, school or church settings.
The purpose of the five-session study, which was written by LCMS President Rev. Dr. Matthew C. Harrison, is to explore how members of the Body of Christ demonstrate love and compassion to people in need as an expression of faith.

One of the best-known and most-beloved psalms is Psalm 23, the “Shepherd Psalm.” There we learn that the Lord is our Shepherd. And since He is our Shepherd, we will not want. We will not suffer want because the Lord, our Shepherd, will lead us to green pastures and beside still waters. In other words, the Lord, our Shepherd, will provide for all that we need in both body and soul.

Now is the time to teach your child about the worship service. Whether a child is 2 or 12, much can be done to lead our children into the riches of the Divine Service.
