Our Story, God’s Mission

In December of 2018, we, Kaylin (SLU), Kristin (SLU), and Emily (STLCOP), attended a worship night at our church - August Gate. During the message, we were encouraged to write down our hopes and dreams for our futures as followers of Christ. We were all inspired to take action to accomplish God’s mission which He laid on our hearts. The three of us discussed the challenge we were given. We realized there are colleges filled with students hungering to chase after God all over the St. Louis area. Yet, all these students (including ourselves), seemed to be tired and weary. How could we be revived to enforce God’s mission for us on our college campuses? We felt called to start a worship night.

Though we had a vision in our heads, we had no idea if or how it was going to happen. Everyone we talked to said they thought it sounded like a really cool idea, but they didn’t think it was actually going to happen. However, we continued to pursue the idea. We continued to meet up, spend time in prayer, and get advice from our mentors. Slowly, details began to settle into place, and GOD MADE HIS PLAN KNOWN.

On April 6, 2019, we had our first Selah! The Holy Spirit moved in the room as we worshiped God. We spent time singing praises to Him, hearing from a speaker, and reflecting on the Gospel and the peace that Christ provides. God worked out everything according to His plan. When everyone gathered outside after the event, a group of students sat around a table and shared examples of how God has worked in their own lives. This is exactly what Selah is about. It’s about gathering together to worship the One True King and growing in community with one another. Wow.

We left that night in awe of what God did, and we knew that this was just the beginning. As people went back to their campuses, encouraged and spiritually fed, we began brainstorming for future Selah events. Our goal is not to just have worship nights, but to build community and spark revival on St. Louis college campuses.
