Save the Date! The 10th Anniversary Virtual Celebration and Open House of NBA’s Young Adult Peer Learning & Wellness Groups will be taking place on Wednesday, June 17th at 7:30pm ET/6:30pm CT.

This free online gathering is both a celebration of past and present peer groups AND an open invitation for any young adult who is curious about what it’s like to be part of a peer group rooted in connection, reflection, and mutual support. We are pleased to be joined by Rev. Dr. Samuel Robles, Jr., an ordained minister, professional musician, educator and author who will guide us in an engaging exploration of how vocation, passion, and our God given gifts inform and shape one another as we live out our purpose. What does equity look like when it comes to disabilities?

NBA’s Young Adult Leadership Development Program’s Research & Development team has been delving into the topic of offering programming that promotes disability equity across leadership experiences for young adults with/in disabilities, and next month they will be offering a survey to listen, learn, and gather information from people across the Disciples denomination that can guide future discernment and the design of more accessible, inclusive, and meaningful opportunities.

We sat down with members of the R&D team to learn more about what motivated them to become part of the design team and how they hope to see a church where young adults with/in disabilities can lead, belong, and thrive. https://buff.ly/qKQk57n.

“Justice is an explicit value of the National Benevolent Association, and we’re striving to find ways to challenge not just the consequences of injustice, but also the causes.” -Rev. Nathan Day Wilson

Earlier this year Rev. Wilson joined NBA as Associate Vice President of Strategic Development, a new position created to emphasize the importance of our development work and to cultivate intentional relationships across and within ecumenical communities. He recently spoke with World Council of Churches (WCC), where he formerly worked prior to NBA, to reflect on his new role. https://buff.ly/0GSKsql (📸: WCC)

What is the Silver Chalice Ministry? “Silver Chalice renews purpose, focus and even vitality for individuals and the congregation,” said Jan Aerie, NBA’s Older Adult Ministries Mission Specialist.

The Silver Chalice Ministry designation affirms the growing number of older adults in the US and in our faith communities, while fighting against the injustice of ageism. It seeks to create age-friendly communities all over the country, and over three dozen congregations have earned or are working towards a Silver Chalice Ministry designation.

“I didn’t want to hurt people anymore. That’s when I began the journey toward my healing.” -James “Sharif” Menefield
