God’s Word plainly teaches, “The law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good” (Romans 7:12). And so, we do not discard the Law, which is a holy gift from God. However, Lutherans have sometimes debated that Law’s applications. Tune in as we discuss this month's edition of "Searching Scripture"!

Rev. Carl Roth talks about the first “Searching Scripture” feature in the June/July 2026 issue of the Lutheran Witness.

Lutheran Service Book 504

1 Father most holy, merciful, and tender;
Jesus, our Savior, with the Father reigning;
Spirit of comfort, advocate, defender,
Light never waning;

2 Trinity blessed, unity unshaken,
Goodness unbounded, very God of heaven,
Light of the angels, joy of those forsaken,
Hope of all living,

3 Maker of all things, all Thy creatures praise Thee;
All for Thy worship were and are created;
Now, as we also worship Thee devoutly,
Hear Thou our voices.

4 Lord God Almighty, unto Thee be glory,
One in three persons, over all exalted!
Glory we offer, praise Thee and adore Thee,
Now and forever.

We're starting a ✨NEW✨ series on Sharper Iron! Tune in for "The Reign of Heaven Stands Near", a study of the Gospel of Matthew! The first evangelist proclaims that God has fulfilled His Old Testament promises by sending Jesus to bring the reign of the heavens among us. As the Son of David, Jesus is the gracious King we need, and as the Son of Abraham, Jesus is the blessing to all the families of the earth.

Rev. Dr. John Genter joins host Rev. Timothy Appel to study Matthew 1:1.

Blessed Trinity Sunday! Hear Christ for you at kfuo.org.

Lutheran Service Book 498/499

1 Come, Holy Ghost, Creator blest,
And make our hearts Your place of rest;
Come with Your grace and heav'nly aid,
And fill the hearts which You have made.

2 To You, the Counselor, we cry,
To You, the gift of God Most High;
The fount of life, the fire of love,
The soul's anointing from above.

3 In You, with graces sevenfold,
We God's almighty hand behold
While You with tongues of fire proclaim
To all the world His holy name.

4 Your light to ev'ry thought impart,
And shed Your love in ev'ry heart;
The weakness of our mortal state
With deathless might invigorate.

5 Drive far away our wily foe,
And Your abiding peace bestow;
With You as our protecting guide,
No evil can with us abide.

6 Teach us to know the Father, Son,
And You, from both, as Three in One
That we Your name may ever bless
And in our lives the truth confess.

7 Praise we the Father and Son,
And Holy Spirit, with them One,
And may the Son on us bestow
The gifts that from the Spirit flow!

As inflation continues to rise, the economy continues to struggle, and family budgets continue to tighten, Rachel’s asking a big question that’s no doubt on many minds:

Should I thrift?

A veteran thrift-store shopper herself, Rachel surveys the current landscape of brick-and-mortar thrift stores and breaks down the economic, environmental, ethical, and fashion implications of buying second-hand clothing. She then offers “pro tips for happy thrifting” and advice for Lutheran women and church groups for how to help “fix the thrifting system.”

Rachel’s asking a big question that’s no doubt on many minds: Should I thrift?

Should we keep sinning since Christ already died and atoned for all of our sins? Paul’s answer to whether we should simply sin in the face of abounding grace is clear: absolutely not! In baptism you were buried with Christ and raised to walk in a new life. Tune in as we study Romans 6!

The Rev. Kale Hanson joins the Rev. Dr. Phil Booe to study Romans 6:1–23.
