It’s been a busy couple months here at Holy Cross as we left the season of Epiphany and Winter and entered into Lent and slowly into spring!

Pastor Bob and Sarah came back from their family leave, and we’ve enjoyed hearing from our 2nd and 4th year seminarians during midweek services. The garden club is back to work, busily cleaning out beds and making things ready for spring flowers and the Easter egg hunt! Our Sunday school continues to grow, as does adult Bible study and we find ourselves having to get creative with our spaces! We also opened a new show at in the Bridge House that we encourage you to check out if you have time!

If you are looking for a church, we’d love to have you come and check us out! Our regular Sunday service is at 10:30am, and we’ll also have special services this coming week for Maundy Thursday and Good Friday that you are welcome to join us in worship!

Can’t make it in person? You can follow the service with our livestream (link in our bio and on the homepage of our website!)

Hope to see you come thru the red doors!

This Sunday, Palm Sunday, begins Holy Week, where we walk with Christ thru his triumphal entry into Jerusalem, to the upper room for the last supper, out to the garden of Gethsemane, to his trials before the religious leaders, Herod, and Pilate, to the cross, to the tomb, and at last, on Easter morning we see him risen, risen indeed!

We invite you to participate in our Holy Week services. Palm Sunday is THIS Sunday, with Divine Service happening at 10:30am. Everyone who attends will get a Palm that can be held during the procession of the cross and the Gospel reading at the beginning of the service.

Then, we will celebrate Maundy Thursday with a Feast Service, dwelling on God’s word, special music, and beautiful artwork by . Church begins at 5:30, and we leave the service in silence.

We will celebrate Good Friday with a feast service, continuing to ponder Kelly’s images as we witness Christ and his sacrifice for us. Church begins at 5:30, and we once again leave the service in silence.

Then, Easter Sunday we start our celebrations with a potluck brunch at 9:15am…feel free to bring a brunch item or just come and enjoy food with us! Then, we close out our time with Kelly’s work during a Feast service at 10:30am. Following the service you are invited to enjoy an Easter Egg hunt for the kids in the gardens

December and January flew by us in a whirlwind of Advent services, Christmas parties, choir practices, Sunday School and Bible studies, candlelit singing, and one major snow storm that kept us all out of the red doors!

December we enjoyed observing Advent during our regular Sunday worship and on Wednesday nights with an evening prayer service and dinner after. On the third Wednesday, we had the extra special treat of participating in the opening of winter show, Kitchen Hymns!

We celebrated Christmas with our annual Christmas party (many thanks to for helping organize the party! This year was extra special as our Sunday School kiddos sang one of the songs they’ve been practicing!

Speaking of singing, throughout Advent we focused on the texts behind the “O Antiphons”, and we enjoyed different cantors each week leading us through various parts of the service.

December proved a challenge for us musically as our organ developed some serious issues, but we managed to make it rally in time for our feast service on Christmas Eve! We also enjoyed having back from leave for a short moment to share the message with us on Christmas Eve and the Sunday after Christmas!

Volunteers were busy around church these last two months; putting the gardens to bed for winter, filling the Blessing Box, cleaning up after Advent dinners, donating items to the children’s areas at Holy Cross, helping fill in for folks who travelled, and so many other jobs that we don’t have room to list them all here!

December went by in a flurry of activity, but January came in quiet and fairly calm (at least for us!). We’ve enjoyed the slow transition out of Christmas and Epiphany back into common time, though we are already looking forward to Lent! We will observe Ash Wednesday with a Feast service at 5:30pm on February 17th, and we’d love to have you join us then, or any Sunday at 10:30am.

And, as always, many many thanks to for her incredible eye and faithfulness in capturing all of happenings at Holy Cross!

You’re invited to join us Christmas Eve for a Feast Service!

But maybe you have some questions, like what is a Feast service? What should I expect? Is there a dress code? Can I bring my family?

Feast services at Holy Cross invite us into a “foretaste of the feast to come,” bringing us into the depth and richness of God’s promises by weaving the Divine Service together with the arts.

For our Christmas Eve Feast service, we will do a Lessons and Carols service, using visual arts, writing, Scripture readings and music to attune the created senses as we receive, digest, and respond to God’s gifts in Christ. You will hear readings from Scripture, followed by songs (carols). Some of these the congregation sings, and some a soloist or choir will sing.

We will also celebrate communion during the service. If you aren’t sure what communion is, please chat with one of our pastors before or after the service. You can also come forward during communion to receive a blessing!

At Holy Cross, we don’t have a strict dress code for Christmas Eve. We don’t expect expensive
or fancy outfits, but we do love to see folks having fun dressing up in festive attire! Whatever you wear, we hope you come ready to worship and receive from Jesus!

Please feel free to bring your family! We do not provide nursery services, but we love having
kiddos join in our services! Feel free to sit close enough your children can see what’s happening and point out things for them to notice.

We know little ones can get fussy, need a diaper change, or need to nurse during the service.
At the back of the church there is a space with books, quiet toys, and crayons if you need them.
There are diaper changing stations in the bathrooms upstairs and in the nursery downstairs. Nursing moms who prefer privacy are welcome to use the nursery downstairs, as you can close the door and still hear the service upstairs.

We hope you can join us on Christmas Eve! And, come back Christmas Day at 9:30am for Christmas Day Divine Service!

They say sharing is caring, which can sound a little trite, until you are in a group where sharing, where bearing one another’s burdens really is caring. During November at Holy Cross, we shared in worship, in prayer, in service to others inside and outside the walls of the church, and so much more!

Highlights include:
- two baptisms!
- messages and special music shared by our Sem students
-meeting neighbors and blessing them with coats and winter gear
-our blessing box helping serve those who use it
-so many volunteers helping to clean up our gardens, decorate the fence line, decorate inside the church, and get us all in the mood for Advent and Christmas

We’d love for you to join us! Services are at 10:30am, and we’ll have Christmas Eve and Christmas Day services in two weeks; Christmas Eve at 7pm and Christmas Day at 9:30am.

If you ever have questions about who we are and what we do, feel free to email Megan in the church office at [email protected] and we’ll be happy to answer any questions you have!

DRAWING UPON SCRIPTURE: Join us Wednesday, October 22nd for an artist talk at Mezzo Gallery (formerly the Bridge House Gallery) at the Bridge House as part of the fall show, “Robert Hodgell: Linocut Artist of Bible Stories.” Author and illustrator John Hendrix will talk about Hodgell’s work, and explore the interplay between image-making, writing and the gospel, and some of the unique challenges of portraying Biblical stories in images.

Doors open at 6pm to see the show and grab some refreshments. Then, at 6:45pm, we’ll head into the sanctuary for John’s talk, with time for some Q+A at the end. After the talk, you’ll be given a prompt and time to go back over to the gallery to see the show again, possibly from a new angle!

Feel free to invite a friend or two to come! This event is free, but registration is required; use this link in our bio to register or email Megan at [email protected]

Can’t make the event but want to see the show? Robert Hodgell: Linocut Artist of Bible Stories is available to view by appointment, Tuesday-Saturday 11am-5pm. Email Megan at [email protected] to make an appointment

Coming up this Sunday, October 12th! Alumni Sunday is a chance to give thanks for all the amazing things God has done through Holy Cross school in the years it ran, and we invite any and all alumni and their friends/family to join us in worship on Sunday, and for lunch afterwards! We will also be celebrating two baptisms on Sunday, and so we hope you can join and celebrate with us!

Service is at 10:30am…for visitors who need assistance with stairs, we have a wheel chair lift along the side of the church; pull up the driveway just to the right of 3617 Texas Ave, and you can either drop off by the lift (which is by the office door) or you can park in the parking lot and walk up to the lift.

Lunch will be in the gardens next to the church…(in case of rain we will move over to Intersect for the lunch)

We look forward to having you join us on Sunday, Oct 12 at 10:30am!

Last month we hosted our first Stations of the Garden as a part of the reception for Tend, our summer show in the Bridge House Gallery. Participants walked through the garden, reflecting on scripture and singing while contemplating the beauty of the garden as a space for rest, renewal, and resilience. Then, everyone got to enjoy the artwork in the gallery as well as some fun treats!

Our offices are closed this week, but we will be back next week with one last week to catch Tend before it closes! Viewing is by appointment only, and appointments can be made for Tuesday-Saturday 11am-5pm. We will be doing an after church coffee hour in the gallery as a closing on Sunday, July 13th…you are welcome to join us for service and then pop across to the gallery to see the show and enjoy some fellowship time with the folks at Holy Cross!

Many thanks to all the artists featured in the show, and to Pastors Bob and Paul who designed and led the stations of the garden!
