We’ve all heard the story:

Adam and Eve… and the apple. But here’s the question—

What if one of the most well-known details in the Bible… was never actually in the Bible?

In this week’s episode of Hole in the Roof Chronicles, we go back to Genesis to examine what Scripture truly says about the fall of man—and where the idea of an “apple” actually came from.

From language and translation to centuries of tradition and artwork, we explore how something not found in Scripture became widely accepted as truth.

But this episode goes deeper than correcting a misconception.

It challenges how we approach God’s Word.

How many beliefs have we accepted simply because they’ve always been repeated?

And what happens when we discover that what we’ve believed doesn’t fully line up with Scripture?

We also take a closer look at responsibility in the garden. While many have placed the blame on Eve, Romans 5 makes it clear that sin entered the world through Adam—raising important questions about obedience, accountability, and spiritual leadership.

This isn’t just about what was eaten.

It’s about what was ignored.

Over the last five years, since returning to regular church attendance, there’s been something I haven’t been able to shake.

A quiet grief.

Not about styles. Not about preferences. But about something deeper:

We have lost a sense of reverence in the sanctuary.

I’m not talking about traditions for tradition’s sake.

I’m talking about the reality that when God’s people gather…
It is not casual. It is not common. It is sacred.

In Scripture, God makes it clear that there are things He calls holy—and He warns us not to treat them lightly.

And yet today, in many places, the sanctuary has slowly become just another space:

– Conversations during worship
– Phones during the message
– A general lack of awareness that God is present

What we call comfort… Heaven may call irreverence.

So I wrote something that’s been building in me for months.
Not as an attack—but as a call.

A call back to the fear of the Lord.
A call back to reverence.
A call back to recognizing when we step into the gathering of believers…

We are stepping onto holy ground.

If you’ve felt this tension too, I think this will resonate with you.

When the Fear of the Lord Leaves the Sanctuary Post author:Paul Hamilton Post published:April 15, 2026 Post category:Blog Post comments:0 Comments I have been wrestling with this blog for a few months. "And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart." - Galatians 6:9 NKJV. Sometimes serving God is challenging. I vividly remember the year-and-a-half legal battle against the City of St. Louis to occupy our first storefront church building. We eventually won the legal battle in Federal court, but lost use of the space during the process.

Last month, Jamie and I had the privilege of running into our friend, Robert Arb, who was our attorney for this case, at a Grandparents' Day at our grandson's school. He told us of the many churches in Missouri that have used the legal decision in our case to open and maintain their churches. Even now, there are three ministries/churches on the very street we fought to have a space on.

You can never tell me that God doesn't have a plan. It may not look like it at the time, but He always works all things out for good.

LINK IN THE COMMENTS

The story of David and Bathsheba is one of the most well-known events in the Bible. It’s often described as a scandalous affair — sometimes even suggesting that Bathsheba tempted the king.
But a careful reading of 2 Samuel reveals something many people overlook.

The text repeatedly emphasizes that David sent for her and took her.

In this episode of the Spoiler Alert podcast series, we examine the biblical account of David and Bathsheba in 2 Samuel 11–12, the story's historical and cultural context, and the prophet Nathan's confrontation that places the responsibility squarely on David.

When we slow down and read Scripture carefully, we discover this was not a romantic encounter — it was a sobering example of power being misused.

We’ve all heard it preached:
“When Saul met Jesus, his name was changed to Paul.”

There’s just one problem… the Bible never says that.

In this episode of Hole in the Roof Chronicles, we open Acts of the Apostles and take a closer look at the road to Damascus, Acts 13:9, and what Scripture actually records. The transformation was real — but it wasn’t a renaming.

Listen now and tell me — had you heard this before?
