The family of Christ that had been located at 2039 Elm St. for over 60 years has moved to a new location at 2460 Hackmann Road. The St. Charles Church of Christ met for many years at 2039 Elm St. beginning when a group of Christians who first met in the home of Elmo and Marguriete Penrod on the now non-existent Wilmes Street for about a year and a half from fall, 1954 to spring 1956. At that time, they had the basement of their meeting house completed on Elm and began meeting there. The following year the upstairs auditorium was completed and Bible classrooms were established downstairs. Summer VBS classes were taught from the mid to late 50s through the late 60s or early 70s. There was a period of approximately 15 or 16 years when VBS was not held. Beginning in 1987, annual VBS classes were once again held for the next 31 years or so. No VBS was held in the summers of 2018 or 2019. At the end of the summer 2019, the congregation began worshipping with the Hackmann Road church. Regular photographs were taken starting in 1988 through 2015. THANK YOU TO RACHEL CASSEL BEHLE of Columbia, MO for making these photos of those VBS posters that had long lined the hallways of the classrooms downstairs. Sadly George West who attended VBS throughout the 90s passed away from injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident last year. We have given those posters containing his picture to his mother, Darla Penrod West, one of our sisters in Christ - member of the church. The following pictures are those that contain pictures of George who is so missed by his mother and grandmother, Marguriete Penrod and his friends who watched him grow up. We plan to get photos of the other posters here soon. [Sadly, another sweet child who was in George's VBS class through the years has also passed away. Her name is Mary Best, a childhood friend, classmate, and 2-door-down-the-street neighbor of Rachel (Behle) Cassel, You will see her in many of the photos with George.]
