Since October Western Carolina Church has been hosting a new event called Elevate! This event began when two students in our youth group wanted to have a worship service for students and other youth groups led by students their age! So they formed a praise team of other students from Mitchell High School and began practicing weekly to make this happen. Leadership from the church has helped with having youthful pastors bring the message. Some of our previous speakers have been Jamison Burleson from Berry Chapel Baptist Church, Luke Silvers from First Baptist Spruce Pine and last month John Luke Rathbone. Over the past 3 events we have had 11 different churches attend. We hope to reach all church’s and students throughout our county and the surrounding county’s. October 17, 2025, Spruce Pine, NC - The NCBOM Spruce Pine Rebuild Center held an open house on October 15, 2025, from 1:50 PM to 6:00 PM. The opening program consisted of a Stone Ceremony based on the scripture Joshua 4:1-9, where memorial stones were laid to commemorate the time when the stones were taken from where the priests stood in the middle of the dried-up Jordon. They were to carry them out and pile them up in the area where they were to camp that night. The participants included individuals who had been with the project from the very beginning, taking a stone and placing it among the stones surrounding the cross. The people involved were Angie and Dale Duncan, Pastor Don and Debbie Ford, Pastor Rocky and Janice Branch, Reverend Bruce and Wendy Cannon, Reverend Steve and Beverly Williams, Sid and Linda Pitman, Kenny and Adam Burleson, Eddie Buchanan and Tom Reeves, Lisa and Chris Barker, Rhonda Franklin and Shelly Hixson, and Brian Ross. After the program, a hot dog lunch and facility tours of the building were provided. The event was an open community event, showcasing the renovations made to the old school building to adapt it for housing and feeding the groups that come to our area to repair and rebuild places damaged by Hurricane Helene. This facility remains to assist in the rebuilding of not only physical structures but also the hope of a better future for all. Just like the stones from Joshua symbolize stability, Baptist on Mission will endure for a very long time. Even after the rebuild phase, it will become a permanent camp to serve those who come here to serve.
