Why Jesus came:

3. Because of God’s Love — To Save, Not Condemn

John 3:16-17

The deepest motive is love. God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. The world was already under condemnation. Jesus came as the rescue.

Why Jesus came:

2. To Seek and Save the Lost

Luke 19:10; 1 Timothy 1:15; Mark 2:17

Jesus declared this purpose at the house of Zacchaeus. He came for sinners who knew they needed rescue, not for those who considered themselves already righteous. Paul calls himself the foremost of those sinners.

Why Jesus came:

1. To Proclaim Liberty to the Captives and Break Strongholds

Luke 4:18-19; Mark 3:27; Colossians 2:15; 2 Corinthians 10:4-5; John 8:36

Jesus publicly declared this at the very beginning of His ministry. In the synagogue at Nazareth He read Isaiah 61 and applied it to Himself. Then He said, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.”

He came not only to forgive, but to liberate. He binds the strong man so He can plunder his house. On the cross He disarmed the rulers and authorities. The result is real freedom: if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

This freedom extends to strongholds—arguments, mindsets, and patterns of thinking raised against the knowledge of God.

I am the true vine

John 15:5 “…I am the vine; you are the branches… apart from me you can do nothing.”

Fruit is not manufactured. It is borne where life flows. The Father prunes what is already His, not to punish attachment but to increase it. Abiding is remaining in the only stock that has sap. Apart from Him, activity can look busy and still be dead wood.

I am the way, and the truth, and the life

John 14:6 “…No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Three claims, one exclusion. The way is not a technique. The truth is not a concept floating free of Him. The life is not self-generated. Access to the Father runs through the Son, or it does not run at all. Narrowness here is mercy. A wrong road cannot be made kind by sincerity.

I am the resurrection and the life

John 11:25 “…Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live.”

He does not merely announce resurrection. He is it, standing outside a tomb that already stinks. Death is real. It is not final for the one who believes. Life is not postponed until the last day only. It has already begun in Him, and the grave cannot keep what belongs to Him.

I am the good shepherd

John 10:11 “…The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.”

Hired hands run when the wolf comes. Goodness here is not mood. It is a laid-down life. He knows His own by name, and they know His voice. Ownership and sacrifice meet in one Person. The sheep are not impressive. The Shepherd is.

I am the door

John 10:9 “…If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture.”

A door is narrow on purpose. Thieves climb another way. Salvation here is not a vague welcome. It is entry by Him, then freedom: in and out, and pasture. The fold is safety. The pasture is provision. Both come through the same opening.
