Heaven is not the same people with the same hearts in a nicer place. God transforms, gathers, and glorifies.
It’s a real biblical movement, even if Scripture doesn’t always line up the three words in that exact order.
God gathers a people.
He calls them out of darkness, out of the nations, out of death, and assembles them to Himself. The church is literally an ekklesia—a gathering. Jesus said He would send His angels to gather His elect from the four winds. Paul speaks of our “gathering together to Him.” The whole story from Abraham onward is God collecting a people for His name.
He transforms that gathered people.
This is the present work. We are being changed “from glory to glory” as we behold the Lord (2 Corinthians 3:18). The Spirit is conforming us to the image of the Son (Romans 8:29). Old things pass away; a new creation appears. The gathering is not just a crowd—it is the place where the raw material of sinners is being made into the likeness of Christ.
He glorifies them.
What He began, He finishes. Those He justified He also glorified—spoken of as already done because it is certain (Romans 8:30). At the appearing of Christ our lowly bodies will be transformed to be like His glorious body. The gathered, transformed people will be presented without spot or wrinkle. The harvest is brought in, the bride is ready, and the glory that was already shining in them now fills everything.
So the sequence is not a rigid three-step program. Gathering and transforming happen together right now. Glorification is the completion of both. God is doing all three at once: collecting a people, changing them into the image of His Son, and bringing them into the glory He prepared for them before the world began.
That’s the story He’s writing.
