A few weeks ago we considered what God did on Pentecost to help with the conversion of ordinary people to be those who did extraordinary things that changed the world. We revisit Acts chapter 2 today, going back to look at the Apostle Peter’s message and what insight we can get for how some 3,000 came to believe after he preached. What was it in that message that pointed the early church to go out and change the world by the power of the Holy Spirit? We can’t wait to see you at 10:15 for worship!

Mission partnerships are really important for us here at S1UMC. These partnerships are one of the ways we live out our call to bring the Good News of Jesus to the ends of the world as Christ called us to in the Great Commission. Today we are blessed to have one of our partners sharing with us in Dan Vaccaro. He and his wife, Miranda, and their five kids, serve at the Rift Valley Academy in Kenya. We are blessed to have them in Springville while they are here in the states on home assignment. They are both sharing more about their ministry at 9:00 in the yellow room, in addition to Dan sharing in worship. See you for worship at 10:15!

Today is Trinity Sunday. This is always the Sunday following Pentecost on the Church liturgical calendar. This is a unique day on the Church calendar because it doesn’t celebrate a particular biblical event, but instead a core doctrine of the Christian faith. The doctrine of the church does it’s best to help us understand, but as to how God can be three and still one will never be something that we can fully understand. Yet Jesus in his ministry wants us to know about the work and persons of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Church has had great debate in growing to understand this important aspect of who God is. So today we worship with the help of Matthew 28:16-20, to sit with the mystery, as we lift our hearts to our Triune God. See you at 10:15!

Sunday School Classes are offered for ages 3 and up at 9:00 am!

We hope you are able to join us for worship at 10:15am, in person and on our livestream.

Today is Pentecost, the day we remember the gift of the Holy Spirit and the birth of the Church! We welcome new members and celebrate baptism as we see the way that the power of the Holy Spirit enters into the world and changes the lives of those who are gathered. The fisherman and revolutionaries that were Jesus’ disciples are inspired to not return to their ordinary lives and change the world. Acts 2:1-12 will help lead our hearts in worship today. See you at 10:15!

In the quiet sanctuaries of our own hearts,
let each of us name and call on the One whose power over us
is great and gentle, firm and forgiving, holy and healing ...

You who created us,
who sustain us,
who call us to live in peace,
hear our prayer this day.

Hear our prayer for all who have died,
whose hearts and hopes are known to you alone ...

Hear our prayer for those who put the welfare of others
ahead of their own
and give us hearts as generous as theirs ...

Hear our prayer for those who gave their lives
in the service of others,
and accept the gift of their sacrifice ...

Help us to shape and make a world
where we will lay down the arms of war
and turn our swords into ploughshares
for a harvest of justice and peace ...

Comfort those who grieve the loss of their loved ones
and let your healing be the hope in our hearts...

Hear our prayer this day
and in your mercy answer us
in the name of all that is holy.

The peace of God be with you.

God is Spirit. Jesus talks about this in John 4. This is probably one of those truths of the faith that we shake our heads in agreement with, but what does it really mean? It means that God is everywhere all the time, but in experience since we cannot see the Spirit it is hard to wrap our heads around what that means practically. We may not solve all the answers, but we will help prepare our hearts for Pentecost next week as we consider Holy Spirit, Where Art Thou? Matthew 27:45-54 will help guide our hearts this morning. See you at 10:15!
