What does wealth have to do with our faith? More than most of us would like to admit. Drawing from 1 Timothy 6:17-19, where Paul urges those with earthly riches not to be haughty or to place their confidence in uncertain wealth but in God who generously provides, we are walked through five practical commands that cut straight to the heart of how we handle what God has entrusted to us. The passage does not treat money as evil, but as a test of faithfulness. The King distributes resources and then settles accounts. What did we do with what we were given? That is the question that frames everything. We are challenged to check our pride, examine what we truly rely on, use our riches for good, invest our time in good works, and share with an open hand. Each of these imperatives asks us to look honestly at patterns we may not even recognize in ourselves. Wealth, like a slow-moving current, has a way of reshaping us without our awareness, much like the way a useful tool can quietly become the thing that owns us rather than the other way around. This is a message that does not let us off the hook simply because we do not consider ourselves wealthy, because by nearly any global measure, we are.
