Come Follow Me Monday: Mosiah 4-6

One of the most beautiful truths about the gospel is that we can change. We can start again. Whatever situation we feel stuck in can be resolved. We don’t have to wait until we feel we fixed ourselves or the something has passed. That’s the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We can come as we are and don’t have to stay that way. He heals, restores, and redeems us. As we follow Him, our lives will be transformed. As you read the scriptures this week, listen for His counsel to you. The spirit will bring to your mind and hearts ways that you can better follow Him and receive the change you need in your life.

Come Follow Me Monday: Enos - Words of Mormon

Prayer is such a powerful, yet simple tool. The fact that we can talk to God is such a huge blessing that sometimes we might take it for granted. When we pray, we find answers, guidance, and the love of our Heavenly Father. One of Satans main methods isn’t to directly get us to do some horrible thing. If he can cut off our desire to communicate with Heaven, that will be enough to affect our lives and our peace.

Enos was longing for the peace that comes from communing with God. He heard the teachings of his father, but he hadn’t found that himself. When he decided to pray sincerely, his prayers were answered and he was filled with peace as well as a love and concern for those around him to receive the same relief in their lives. God doesn’t always answer our prayers in the ways we think He should, but He always answers them in the ways that will help us along our journey back to Him. Don’t let Satan convince you that God doesn’t have anything for you. God wants a relationship with you. When you reach out to Him in faith, your life will change.

-The Lord is gathering Israel and we are a big part of it.
- God and Jesus Christ love us and are hard at work alongside us.
- We are in charge of our own conversion.

Come Follow Me Monday: Easter Week

There are numerous suggestions in the study guide for this week and there is also an Easter Week Study Plan that will be linked below.

Christ didn’t come merely to save us. He came to bring change. That ‘change’ wasn’t always accepted by those who couldn’t see the bigger picture and the intense love He has for each of us. On the Monday before Easter, we recognize when Christ cleansed the temple. Someone who doesn’t understand the sacredness of temples could misunderstand this as an out-of-place outburst of anger. Temples are sacred spaces where we make promises with God. Up until Christ’s Atonement was completed, the people followed the law of Moses and temple rituals which were the only ways to become cleansed from their mistakes. When Christ saw people in the temple only there to make a profit, He threw them out. When inside the temple, the whole focus is supposed to be on God and renewal. Other worldly cares do not belong there.

In a way, we each can be guilty of bringing our worldly cares and habits into our worship. A question we could ask ourselves is: How can we leave our worldly cares aside when we seek to be close to the Lord, especially when in the temple? How can we take a step forward in making our time with the Lord more sacred?

Come Follow Me Monday: 2 Nephi 31-33

One of the reasons The Book of Mormon is such a powerful aid in our conversion to Jesus Christ is its simple, yet profound explanations of His doctrine. In these chapters we can gain a better understanding of what it looks like to follow the path of faith, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end. We promise that as you read these chapters and pray to know of the truth they contain, you will be filled with the love of God and a greater strength to act on Christ’s teachings.

Come Follow Me Monday: 2 Nephi 26-30

The way that Nephi saw the things of the future and gave counsel to his people can give insight on how the prophets see things that are ahead of us in our day. With general conference coming up, these chapters are a great way to become prepared. Not only do they cover prophecies that were fulfilled by the end of The Book of Mormon, they also include the prophecies of Isaiah that are being fulfilled now during the last days before Christ comes again! The words of current prophets and those of old testify together that Jesus is the Christ, that He will come again, and that there are things we can do to be ready to be reunited with the Savior. We promise that as you prayerfully prepare for this next general conference, the spirit will help you prepare for that day in a personal and sacred way.

Come Follow Me Monday: 2 Nephi 20-25

"[The words of Isaiah] are plain unto all those that are filled with the spirit of prophecy."
- 2 Nephi 25:4

If Isaiah has seemed like a foreign language to you, you're not alone. Even Nephi admitted that his family members who had never lived in Jerusalem had a difficult time understanding Isaiah's words. Nephi stated that his people were not familiar with the Jew's "manner of prophesying." There is a phrase that some leaders in the church use that goes, "good revelation is based on good information." Maybe the reason we feel like we are struggling so much with Isaiah's words is because we have little to no background information about the history of that time period. As we continue to rely on the spirit to direct our studies, we will be led to the resources that will expand our knowledge and the words of Isaiah will become plain and clear to us. As we better understand the words of Isaiah, we will become more prepared for the second coming of Jesus Christ.

Come Follow Me Monday: 2 Nephi 11-19

"And now, the words which I shall read are they which Isaiah spake concerning all the house of Israel; wherefore, they may be likened unto you, for ye are of the house of Israel." - 2 Nephi 6:5

The introduction in this week's cfm points out a powerful fact. Engraving on the metal plates was not an easy task. They only engraved that which they deemed was among the most precious of truths. Nephi and his brother Jacob valued the words of Isaiah and knew we could benefit from them as we took the time to study them. Again, if you haven't used the institute manual, it is an incredible resource that can bring a lot of context and clarity in Isaiah's words.

Have you ever felt like the boy in this video who got himself stuck on the cliff side? Not all of us are literally going to be in the same position, however we may experience times where we feel we’ve gotten ourselves into a miserable situation that we can’t seem to get out of. We testify the Lord is aware of you and can do all things. Rely on Him and He will give you strength and a path forward.
