HOPE IS ALIVE!! October 16, 2026

Hi everyone! Pastor Gaylene here! I hope this finds you awaiting some promised rain in the next while this evening! Have hope! I had a wonderful day today. Cousins from Florida and Indiana came by way of Fredericksburg. We had a wonderful lunch at the Twisted Root Restaurant. They specialize in all kinds of burgers and mega barrels of different kinds of pickles. We started talking at about 11:15 and did not stop until around 3:00. It was so great!
This Sunday is our annual Pink Out Sunday.
The sanctuary will be decked out with lots of pink stuff. In the words of Steel Magnolias, “The place will look like it has been hosed down with pepto-bismal.” There will be a special litany about those who have battled breast cancer, those who have survived and those who did not survive and have gone on to glory. I am a 12 year survivor, Praise God! We would love to have you join us for these celebrations and remembrances during worship this Sunday. So, wear your pink shirt (guys, you can wear pink too!) and join us for worship at 10:00.
This week’s message is really interesting! It is the confrontation by the Chief Priests, Pharisees, Elders and scribes as they try to trap Jesus into answering the question, “Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar or not?” They have this elaborate plan to trap Jesus into answering this question and either way that Jesus answers them will cause the crowd to turn against Him or mark Him as someone who is disloyal. Now, Jesus knows this and so he turns the tables on them and essentially says, “Gotcha!” Come and find out how Jesus pulls this one off! It’s pretty cool!
Here at Hope Lutheran Church in Springtown, Texas, we are a come as you are, casual dress, coffee drinking bunch. We have Sunday School for all ages followed by worship with communion. All are welcome at the table of grace, mercy and forgiveness.

HOPE IS ALIVE! October 9, 2026

Hi everyone! Pastor Gaylene here!
I don’t know about you, but I have totally enjoyed the 70 and less degree weather this week. I checked and it is supposed to be down to 64 degrees one day this week! Can’t wait. I actually wore a sweater (for a few hours) one day this week. Fall may actually get here soon!

This coming Sunday is one of my most favorite Sundays in the church year. It is Pet Blessing Sunday. This is the Sunday that we remember St. Francis of Assisi; the patron saint of animals. He is remembered for his deep love and respect for all of God’s creatures. Animals are welcome at Hope Lutheran in Springtown, TX this Sunday. These are the requirements. All animals must have legs, wings or fins. They must be leashed, crated, caged or in a water dish. If you have a large animal such as a farm or barnyard animal, I will happily bless them in the church parking lot. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING THAT SLITHERS inside or outside of the church.This week we will explore another of Jesus’ parables. It is the parable of the Wedding Feast. This parable, once again it is being told to the chief priests, elders and scribes and tells the story of a man who is hosting a wedding. He sends out invitations and those who received invitations did not come and made many excuses. So then he sends out his servants and the invited guests ignore the invitation and abuse and kill the servants. The king then sends out other servants out into the streets to invite everyone they can find. And they all come. Then a guest shows us and the problem begins…Come and find out what the problem is and how it's teaching changes everything! It’s a great story…come and listen.

Hope Lutheran Church is a friendly, casual dress, coffee drinking, come as you are congregation. We sing, we pray, we listen to scripture and greet each other with kindness. Communion is served each Sunday and all are welcome at the table of grace, mercy and forgiveness.

HOPE IS ALIVE!!

Hi everyone! Pastor Gaylene here! WOW! Mark October 1 on your calendar as the day the drought has ended! It was a beautiful, soaking, several hours long rain! Loved it! Loved it! Loved it!! To celebrate I made homemade bread and the first soup of the season; a corn chowder with potatoes and bacon. Very yummy!

This week is Breakfast Burrito Saturday. We begin serving at 8:00 and usually end at 10:00. We make in the neighborhood of just under 200 burritos each first Saturday. Last month we began at 8:00 and we were out of burritos at 9:00! So get there early so you can get some of the best burritos in town served with coffee and juice by the friendliest folks in town.

This Sunday is also first Sunday POTLUCK LUNCH. Potluck lunch follows worship. Bring a dish to share or just come and eat from the table and fellowship. All are welcome and we would love to see you.
This Sunday’s message is another one of Jesus’ parables from Matthew. This one is about the wicked tenants of a landowner. The thing to remember is that Jesus is telling this story to the chief priests, elders and Pharisees. This story is really tough. The evil tenants forgot they were hired to tend the land not to lay claim to the land. And they do terrible things to the landowner’s hired hands as they try to bring back the crops. Come and hear the message and hear how this story plays out!

Saturday. October 3 Burrito Breakfast 8:00-10:00 unless we run out sooner.
Sunday. October 4 Worship followed by Potluck Lunch.
Tuesday. October 13 10:00 until we finish the Blessing Bag Ministry. Items needed this month: Seasonal Little Debbie Cookies or snacks. Chewy Granola Bars, Motts Gummy Fruits, Peanut Butter Crackers, Kool-aid Drink Pouches, Lip Balms, Socks, Individual sunscreens, Vienna Sausage, Chef Boy-R-Dee Ravioli cups and Tuna/Chicken Packets. And most important…WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!

Here at Hope Lutheran we welcome all who come through our doors. We are a casual dress, coffee drinking bunch of folks. We celebrate the Lord’s Table each week and all are welcome at the Table of Grace, Mercy and Forgiveness. Sooooo..

HOPE IS ALIVE!

Hi everyone! I drive a red PT Cruiser convertible. This has been the first time all summer long it has been cool enough (Not that 80 degrees is cool!) to put the top down! I put on my summer straw hat and off to the grocery store we went! It was so much fun!

This week's message is another one of the parables found in Matthew. This one is a story of a father who has two sons. He asks one of the sons if he would go out to work in the vineyard. The son said, “No, I will not,” but he later changed his mind. When he asked his other son to go and help out in the vineyard, he said, “I will, sir.” but he never went. Then Jesus asks the folks hearing the story this question, “”Which son did the will of his father,” he asks the chief priests and elders. It is quite a story and I think most of us know the answer, but there is more to this story. Come this Sunday and hear this story and decide which son/daughter are you?

HOPE IS ALIVE!

Hi everyone! Pastor Gaylene here. I hope all of you are well and staying cool. I lost track of the week, so this week’s blog is a bit late. Please Forgive!

This week’s message is from Matthew 20: 1-16 and the parable of the laborers in the vineyard. Jesus tells the story of a landowner who went out early one morning to hire laborers to work in his vineyard. He hires them at a denarius for the day and then sends them into the vineyard. He then, around noon he hires another group of workers for the same wage and repeats this same task two more times offering the same wage to the laborers that was offered at the early morning hiring. The end of the day comes and the landowner holds up his end of the bargain and some of those hired are furious and believe they have been treated unfairly. The sermon title is: “It’s Not Fair! And Aren’t We Glad!”Come and hear how this interesting story plays out. You don’t want to miss this one!

Twenty-five years ago, our nation was shaken by unimaginable tragedy. Today, on this milestone anniversary of September 11, 2001, we pause in reverence and deep remembrance.

We remember the 2,977 precious lives lost in New York City, Shanksville, and the Pentagon. We honor the incredible courage of the first responders who ran toward danger, and we lift up the families who still carry the tender weight of absence.

In moments of profound heartbreak, our faith reminds us where to anchor our souls:

"God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble." — Psalm 46:1

May we continue to stand together in compassion, pray faithfully for lasting peace, and reflect Christ’s enduring hope in our communities.

HOPE IS ALIVE!

Hi everyone! Pastor Gaylene here! WE GOT A BIT OF RAIN THURSDAY AFTERNOON! PRAISE GOD!! It wasn’t a lot, but every little bit helps. Okay! It’s time to get back to regular worship time. Beginning this Sunday, September 13th, Sunday School will resume at 9:00-9:45 and Worship will begin at 10:00. Set your clocks to meet for Sunday School for all ages and worship at regular times. We hope to see you there. Remember…all are welcome!

This week the scripture lesson is Matthew 18: 21-35. It’s all about forgiveness. Forgiveness is not just seven times, but 7 times 70, which equals 490 times. This is the parable of The Unforgiving Servant. The servant has been forgiven a huge debt by his master. But when the servant does not forgive a much smaller debt and sends the debtor to prison until he can pay the debt, things do not bode well for him. The title of this message is Forgiveness Doesn’t Count. Come and worship with us and see how this difficult parable plays out.

This Tuesday, September 15, at 10:00 until we finish, we will be filling Blessing Bags. Blessing Bags bags filled with non perishable food, water, fruit juice, personal hygiene items, socks and bandanas. These are given to homeless shelters and anyone in need. We could really use anyone who can come and help to sort the items, fill the bags, tape the bags shut and then deliver them to Center of Hope in Springtown, Center of Hope in Azle and to anyone who needs some extra help. And it is a lot of fun! Hope to see you there.
