HOPE IS ALIVE!! September 3, 2026

Hi everyone! Pastor Gaylene here. I hope you are having a wonderful day. I just checked my weather app and it says 91 degrees! Break out the sweaters and warm socks!

Reminder…This Saturday is Burrito Saturday. Come on by and get some breakfast burritos, juice and hot coffee. There is no cost for these delicious treats, but donations are always accepted. These are the best burritos and coffee in town. You don’t want to miss out. We are serving from 8:00 until 10:00 unless we run out earlier. It has been known to happen. If you can spare some to help out with Burrito Ministry we could use some help in cooking, filling, setting up and tearing down. We would love to see you!

On September 8 from 10:00–? We will be filling Blessing Bags. These are bags filled with non-perishable food, water, juice, plastic ware, hygiene items, socks etc…We need lots of volunteers to help sort and fill the bags. We would love to see you.

I can’t begin to tell you all how the passing of Dolly Parton has made me so sad. She was an amazing singer, entertainer, philanthropist, kind hearted and so filled with joy! And her faith was unshakable. So I will tell you now that my sermon was somewhat inspired by her and her ability to love so many folks and the belief that we should do the same. The scripture passage is really a hard one. In
Matthew 18: 15-20 Jesus advises the church in a series of statements of how to manage conflict among the members of the church. But most of all these are pieces of advice, especially the first one is one we can apply to our own conflicts with family and friends. And no matter who it is in which we have conflict we should always love them. Jesus did! (And so did Dolly!)

Worship begins at 9:00 this Sunday for the last week. Beginning next week, September 13 Sunday School will resume at 9:00 with worship at 10:00. We are a come as you are bunch of folks where the coffee is the third sacrament. We welcome all who come through our doors. We celebrate the Lord’s Table each week and all are welcome at the table of grace, mercy and forgiveness. So…

HOPE IS ALIVE!!

Hi everyone! Pastor Gaylene here! Did any of you ever see the funny little clip of Johnny Depp in his pirate costume running down the beach and the caption said, “Be a pirate they said. It’ll be fun, they said!” Well that has been me this week. I have been busy with writing, studying and editing and visiting with families. And one trip back to the church in Springtown to pick up my robe and stole to officiate a celebration of life service tomorrow Please understand. I love doing these things. These are just a part of the many joys of being a pastor. They just don’t usually happen all in the same week.

Having said all of that I just want to invite each of you to worship this coming Sunday. We are a come as you are, all are welcome, coffee drinking congregation where we not only celebrate The Lord’s Supper, but coffee as the third sacrament!

Worship begins at 9:00 at Hope Lutheran Church in Springtown, Texas for the next two Sundays. Regular Sunday School and Worship will return on September 13; Sunday School at 9:00 for all ages and Worship to follow at 10:00. Sooooo…

HOPE IS ALIVE!

Hi everyone! Pastor Gaylene here! I hope this Friday has brought you joy at the end of the week. And I am going to issue a special invitation to each of you to attend worship at 9:00 am at Hope Lutheran Church in Springtown, Texas. We have a sign next to the highway to welcome each of you. Hope is the “coolest” place in town!

This week’s message finds Jesus and the disciples in Cesarea Phillipi. It is the place where Jesus asks two questions of the disciples; “Who do people say that I am? The disciples respond with different answers. The answers vary from “Some say you are Elijah. And someone else says, “That you are John the Baptizer.” Now to us those answers are kind of strange. But then Jesus looks at Simon Peter and asks, “Who do you say that I am?” There is a long silence from all of the disciples and finally Simon Peter cannot stand the silence anymore…and he answers…..? Come and worship with us and hear what Simon Peter answers and the change he experiences. It’s a cool story!

We welcome all who come through our doors. We are a casual dress bunch. We believe that coffee is the third sacrament. The communion table welcomes all who wish to to receive mercy, grace and forgiveness. Sooooo…

Big shout out to North Texas Comfort HVAC.

North Texas Comfort HVAC did an outstanding job getting one of our church’s HVAC units back up and running. They were prompt, professional, and diagnosed the issue quickly without trying to push unnecessary replacements. Their pricing was remarkably fair and worked within our church budget. Honest, reliable service is hard to come by, and we are grateful for their help. Highly recommended for any organization, business, or homeowner in the area!

Hi everyone! Pastor Gaylene here. And let’s just get this out of the way…It’s still HOT!!! School has begun for most kids in public and private schools and universities. This Sunday the 16th, we will be having a Blessing of the Backpacks. So, BRING YOUR BACKPACKS, BOOK BAGS or WHATEVER in which you carry your supplies. We will have a special liturgy of blessing and prayer over the bags and those who carry them.

This week’s message is a really hard one. This message comes from Matthew 15, the story of Jesus and the Syro Phonecian Woman. Jesus and the disciples are walking in a Gentile area across the desert. The Syro Phonecian woman is unnamed and a Gentile. She sees Jesus and the disciples and runs calling Jesus’ name as she follows them. She is shouting to him that her daughter is possessed by a demon and that He can save her. Jesus ignores her and the disciples try to keep her away from Jesus. It gets worse…Come and hear how this extraordinary story plays out. Worship begins at 9:00!

HOPE IS ALIVE!

Hi! Pastor Gaylene here! It’s Friday! I hope this Friday finds you well and planning a wonderful weekend somewhere cool and you get to do something fun!

This week’s message is found in the 14th chapter of Matthew. It is the story of Jesus walking on water. When I was a kid my Dad told me a joke about these two deacons and a buddy who went fishing. They’re out on the lake and one of the deacons says, “I left my hat in the car.” And he gets out of the boat and walks on the water to the shore and back to the boat. He returns to the boat and the other deacon says, “I left my thermos in the truck.” He climbs out of the boat and walks across the water to the shore returning the same way. Their buddy decides to try this miraculous walking on water thing. So, he climbs out of the boat and promptly sinks into the water and struggles to the shore. The two deacons look at one another and one of them says, “You think we should have told him where the rocks were.”

That is a silly story. But this story of Jesus is not so silly. Jesus has just come off losing his cousin John to a brutal ex*****on. Followed by the feeding of 5000 souls and healing their sicknesses. He sends the disciples back home across the Sea of Galilee while he goes back to the mountain for a well deserved time of rest and prayer. A raging storm happens on the sea and the disciples are struggling to get back to the shore. They are terrified and then they see Jesus walking on the water. So the question for us is what do we do when we find ourselves terrified and don’t know what to do? And what can we learn from this miraculous fete Jesus shows to the disciples?
