"People can die from hardening of the categories." -- James Luther Adams, UU theologian
"I am large... I contain multitudes." -- Walt Whitman's "Song of Myself"
We need categories. Categories help us to understand risk, connection, who our "people" are. But categories can also be limiting. No one likes being put in a box.
The same can be said of identity. Many Buddhist teachers have described identity as an attachment, something we should try to let go of. But identity can also be hugely helpful, no? After all, sometimes our boxes are those of our own making.
This Sunday, we kick off a new monthly theme -- Awakening Curiosity -- by turning our lens to categories and idenities that often seem fixed. Curiosity asks us to awaken to the multitudes within, among, and beyond us.
Join us for Worship at 9:30 AM (in person) or 11AM (in person or online). And then stay afterwards for the last performance of THE PROM presented by Unity House Players. All are welcome!
