Shall we gather at the river,
Where bright angel feet have trod;
With its crystal tide forever
Flowing by the throne of God?

Yes, we'll gather at the river,
The beautiful, the beautiful river;
Gather with the saints at the river
That flows by the throne of God.

Happy Mother's Day!

05/09/2026

Mother’s Day began not as a commercial holiday, but as a deeply Christian movement rooted in compassion, courage, and social healing.
The first Mother’s Day service was held in a Methodist church in Grafton, West Virginia, in 1908. It honored Ann Reeves Jarvis, a Methodist woman who organized Mothers’ Work Clubs to care for women and children in struggling Appalachian communities.

Join us Sunday at 9:45 a.m. as we explore the spiritual meaning of Mother's Day.

The original draft of Julia Ward Howe's "Battle Hymn of the Republic" was once just a few miles away from Mt. Pisgah, part of an exhibit near Sunshine and U.S. 65.

On Sunday we will reflect on the history of Mother's Day, including Howe's influence on the holiday. We will also explore images of motherhood in the Bible.
